BRUCE ALMIGHTY: Atheism's Critique of Arminianism
Posted on 11/30/2003 5:21:17 PM PST by drstevej
Bruce Nolan (Carrey), a television reporter in Buffalo, N.Y.,is discontented with almost everything in life despite his popularity and the love of his girlfriend, Grace (Aniston) . At the end of the worst day of his life, Bruce angrily ridicules and rages against God and God responds. God appears in human form (Freeman) and, endowing Bruce with divine powers, challenges Bruce to take on the big job to see if he can do it any better. |
|
Bruce Nolan: How do you make someone love you without changing free will?
God: Welcome to my world.

Hmmm! Woody is giving CDL and Hermann a run for their money? I will sit back and watch the show. :-)

I absolutely will receive proper Trinitarian Baptism (this will be something I bring up with Session this Sunday). You can blame Jean Chauvin and Wrigley for the Klompen dancing. Haggis is too nasty to contemplate and I am not coordinated enough (or Celtic enough for that matter) to Sword Dance (I think that is a boy dance anyway) ;-)
And thanks Dr Steve and xzins for your help also! ;-)

Is Russian Orthodox significantly different than Antiochian (other than language and some local saints)?Yes, there is a grave difference, one which has caused much heart-ache to the Russian Orthodox...
Some Antiochian Orthodox priests have been known to... I almost can't bear to relate this (shudder)... shave their beards.
The Russian Orthodox, who know in their hearts that a beard is approaching proper length when one can use it to dust the church floor when kneeling in worship, pray without ceasing that their Antiochan brethren will repent of this scandal and return to the true path.
It greives me to mention this matter, but the truth must be told.

Merely a plot for a higher spot in Pope Piel's Inquisitional staff. Your discernment and wisdom are a wonder to behold, your Fishiness.

The Russian priest who baptized and chrismated me once lost a good 4 years to an automobile vaccuum cleaner. He was very distressed.
You can see here that he is making much progress in growing it anew.

-- Pope Piel I Yes, but Pope Innocent III has his own action figure
Just another good idea for Mrs. Piel's home shopping network.

You are correct of course, but art thou not also sucking up to Piscator Pocketus Maximus?
To: drstevej
Just a little bit
But I knew you would discern that too.

Like your style Dubya. And I know you will remember that when you make the big time. I'm out of here for now.

Is Russian Orthodox significantly different than AntiochianI think the Antiochians use a western rite liturgy. Other than that, plus language and customs-of-the-mother- country-issues, I don't think there are any differences.

FOFLOL! The Heresy is so appalling! I KNEW the long beards were multifunctional. :-) Now that I think of it. the Antiochian priest was awful clean shaven....... As are most of Hermann's priests...... ;-) Of course, my pastor has a robe for 1 singular purpose: he dresses up as Calvin for the Reformation Day party. ;-)

You are pretty grounded in analytical thinking and very comfortable, I would say, with rational logic, etc.
They don't come a whole lot more western than you, Hermann. Good thing you are not EO.

Not sure. I will know Sunday. Babies are sprinkled but not sure about adults. One thing for sure, no font in the building. :-)

Immersion is much more fun. I was in a horse tub outside in March. Not too warm around here at that time of year either. Fasted all day except for a glass of wine. I don't think I ate at all. It was a really great, great day.
Hope yours is truly magnificent! Many Years!!!

Is there something wrong with analytical thinking and logic? St. Gregory Palamas was well grounded in that too. The Ecumenical Councils certainly appear to have used them.
Do you really believe reasoned understanding and logic is a hindrance to spirituality and mysticism? Or perhaps that reason contradicts faith?
You appear to mistake us for practitioners of "Scientism" or "Cartesianism".
To: MarMema
Thanks! I want to see a Russian Orthodox service (the beards and all) now. :-)
