Katie in Attack Mode - Questions Arnold's Leadership, Envisions "Havoc" and Grope Lawsuits
The Today Show
Posted on 10/08/2003 4:31:31 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest
The morning after a historic election, it's traditional for the media to lead their coverage with an analysis of what led to the winning candidate's victory, and typically offer some softbal, warm and fuzzy interviews with the winning team.
But as far as The Today Show's Katie Couric is concerned, there's no time for a honeymoon, as she wasted no time in attack Arnold and painting a grim picture for his political future.
Couric's guest was CA Congressman and Arnold transition chairman David Dreier.
Again, the typical morning-after question would have been along the lines of "how does it feel?" or "how did Arnold do it?", or if you're looking to be a bit more substantive "what is Arnold's #1 priority?"
Instead, the first words out of Courics' mouth "polls show that 2/3 of the people feel Arnold didn't adequately explain his plans. What does that say about his leadership or his ability to communicate with the people?"
Next: "Arnold must present a budget by January 10th. How can he do it without cutting programs or raising taxes?"
And of course Katie hates the idea of letting taxpayers keep more of their money: "Wouldn't eliminating the recent tripling of the car tax wreak havoc?"
Next question: "When does he propose to address the groping allegations? Many of the women have retained high-powered lawyers. How concerned about lawsuits, how big a distratcion will that be?

Katie needs another colonoscopy; this time without sedation!I think having to report about the recall results and a Republican winning in California is much more painful for the UN-perky katie this morning.

McAuliff must retain his job! The 2002 election as well as the Recall have worked to the advantage of the Republicans. :)

Oh. I stand corrected. I don't get to listen to Rush much any more. But, of course, I think everyone agrees that Clinton hurt the Democrats. I think people disagree with me that he helped the Republican party (which may be the same thing). It was infelicitously stated by me, anyway.

No doubt! I love having him as the symbol of the Dem party. But I have to assume that there are many disgruntled Dem leaders savvy enough to see what a diaster he's been and who would like to get rid of him.

The liberals' idea of compassion through taxation leaves me confused and angry.
Isn't that the definition of liberalizm? Doing good with someone else's money? That's why I have a hard time with those who say they are social liberals and fiscal conservatives -- by definition it's about wealth transfer (socializm)

Biggest Dem. disaster = Clinton's.

The tide of socialism must be halted. Otherwise, we will mirror the catastrophie in Canada. California isn't far behind Canada. How far is the rest of America behind California?

Katie is currently interviewing Lawrence O'Donnell. She can't control her bitterness:
"I think it's fascinating that most of the voters cast their ballots for someone with absolutely no political experience."
"What does this say about the cult of celebrity?"
To: abclily
It's not on yet here in Phx; if I catch it I will note the sponsors, out of curiosity. Local TV here in the morning is
is pretty bad, and Couric is hard to stomach anyday.

Katie adds: "is the future fraught with landmines for Arnold, trying to run the goveror's office in the same way he ran the campaign?"
To: governsleastgovernsbest
Leon Panetta said on the Today show this AM, that in order for Schwarzeneggar to be successful, he must model himself after Reagan, and work out compromises with the Calif. legislature. I was stunned that he would allude to Reagan!
The cult of celebrity isn't necessarily a bad thing. Isn't that what politics is, at its core?

Panetta was very decent - saying a new recall would be a bad idea.

The liberal Dems and RINOs in Arizona may be a bit shaken too. 70% of the state populace want an end to the state's supporting illegals. Maybe, after seeing what happened in their neighboring state, they wake up to a new reality and the people of AZ start rattling their cages.

Couric/etc/NBC has begun spinning California as .... a loss for Bush.
Unbelievable.
NBC is truly biased, when it is not simply the voice of the Baath party.

Katie is just blue that she didn't get groped by Arnold.
That's probably true given how she's been prone to seek attention from her male interviewees. I remember how she practically threw herself all over Seinfeld, and recently she flirted shamelessly with Dr. Phil, sitting there with her hand on his knee, laughing all the while and acting like a little girl. The way she flirts is just so obnoxious, annoying, and gross. And speaking of little girls, why does a grown professional woman go by the name Katie?

I liked that, too! Another Recall is a terrible idea, the budget needs to be addressed first and foremost. Panetta said it was time to move forward, and I agree.
