Katie in Attack Mode - Questions Arnold's Leadership, Envisions "Havoc" and Grope Lawsuits
The Today Show
Posted on 10/08/2003 4:31:31 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest
The morning after a historic election, it's traditional for the media to lead their coverage with an analysis of what led to the winning candidate's victory, and typically offer some softbal, warm and fuzzy interviews with the winning team.
But as far as The Today Show's Katie Couric is concerned, there's no time for a honeymoon, as she wasted no time in attack Arnold and painting a grim picture for his political future.
Couric's guest was CA Congressman and Arnold transition chairman David Dreier.
Again, the typical morning-after question would have been along the lines of "how does it feel?" or "how did Arnold do it?", or if you're looking to be a bit more substantive "what is Arnold's #1 priority?"
Instead, the first words out of Courics' mouth "polls show that 2/3 of the people feel Arnold didn't adequately explain his plans. What does that say about his leadership or his ability to communicate with the people?"
Next: "Arnold must present a budget by January 10th. How can he do it without cutting programs or raising taxes?"
And of course Katie hates the idea of letting taxpayers keep more of their money: "Wouldn't eliminating the recent tripling of the car tax wreak havoc?"
Next question: "When does he propose to address the groping allegations? Many of the women have retained high-powered lawyers. How concerned about lawsuits, how big a distratcion will that be?

There's a lot of America west of the Mississippi that isn't on the West coast. Visit sometime, you might like some of it.

I do visit, and have always enjoyed it. I am just unable to take the plunge, and change my address to west of the Mississippi permanently.

Susan does seem to be one of the few liberal Dems who has a clue. She has openly said the Dem party is in big trouble because they are out of touch and one of the biggest reasons is--the Clintons. If the Dems don't change, Susan could jump ship (lol).

Estrich was just on Fox and Friends. She looked really happy!

Susan Estrich (from 0). She lectured Dems on their sleazy reports and said she was sickened by them; she said that the Dems needed to get over it and work with Arnold; and she said that she had defended Clinton against "far worse" charges than were levelled against Arnold. For now, she is a rare thing like a unicorn--and honest Democrat. Susan Estrich is desperately trying to save the Democrat Party, and it appears she'll have to do it single-handedly. She's risking the ire of her fellow Democrats by being honest. She knows its gone over the edge and is wallowing in slime and hypocracy, and she's got to believe that if they stay there it will be the end of her party.
I don't agree with her issues, but I respect her courage. It wouldn't surprise me if she finds herself ostrasized by her "colleagues" as the next presidential election gets closer.

But she loved Bubba. How's that for a double standard? LOL!
To: Pan_Yans Wife
Confusion is understandable...their postion is one derived from the internal effort at constant "compartmentalization" of morally conflicting ideas and behavior...i.e. it is the outward manifestation of a borderline sociopathic thought process. the Clinton duo evidence this in its most mature form presently.

Have you ever noticed the horrible wheezing sound that she makes when she finally takes a breath? Ewwww.
To: TomGuy
I have maintained (with no one else agreeing) for 5 years on FR that, whatever horrible harm the Clintons did to the country, it was trebled by the harm they did to the Democrat party and the assistance--admittedly spotty--they rendered the Republican party. Without Clinton, we would not have had welfare reform, nor a Republican Congress. Just think what we would have gotten if we had a sincerely ideological and effective Democrat in the White House for 8 years, rather than a failed president.
But, that's grist for another mill, on another day.

I noticed Terry McAuliffe was on the media circuit a couple of hours before the polls closed last nite. He was spewing the lines that Davis wouldn't be recalled and Bustamante would win.
Terry hasn't been seen since then. He must have slithered into the hole and is licking his wounds.
He did say that electing Arnold "wouldn't bode well for the Republicans". Huh?????
Terry was last seen floating down Denial river.

I don't think your alone in your assessment. If memory serves, Rush has often pointed out the incredible decline of the Dem party since Clinton took office - losing the House after 42 years, losing the majority of governorships, state legislatures, etc.
It's like the Clintons' old friend, the late Jim McDougal said: the Clintons are like a tornado that roll through the lives of people they touch.

Your comments remind me that generally Conservatives work from a world-view, when deciding on issues. And their positions mirror one another. Supporting the family means supporting parental choice in education, the right to life campaign, marriage, personal responsibility, family values, etc.
The liberals seem to cherry-pick their ideas and quite often they do not mesh.
For instance, how can the labor unions support Democrats, when Democrats for the most part support the Environmental lobbyists who want to curb automobile production, which will then decrease the number of jobs that the manufacturers offer to the union laborer at the assembly plant? :)

Thanks for mentioning McAuliffe. Delighting in the misery of others is not an admirable trait, but I can't help indulging in a bit of it at the expense of McA. How much longer can this disastrous failure of a Dem Chairman hold onto his job?
To: LoveBushLongTime
That wheezing sound is due to the opening that dem's breath though is usually pressed against a chair. Put the palm of your hand against your lips and blow to simulate.
