For too long, America's fighting men and women have been laboring on a two-front war not of their choosing: The front against terror and tyranny that they volunteered for, and the flank that we must defend for them against efforts by the media and leftists to undermine their morale and resolve.

All summer long, and now into fall, our brave men and women have been doing great work in Iraq, Afghanistan and other areas around the world eliminating terrorist threats to our security while bringing freedom to oppressed people.

Those efforts have been buried under an onslaught of biased reporting and political maneuvering by the enemies of freedom at home and abroad.

On Saturday, October 25 at 11 a.m., patriotic Americans will gather at the Capitol in Washington, D.C. to stand up for our troops and reiterate our support for them, their Commander-in-Chief, America and the war on terror.

All FReepers and lurkers in good standing, their friends and families, and all who support our troops and their mission are encouraged to attend. Nothing but a strong public showing will do. Those in uniform are making great sacrifices. The least we can do is give up one day to say "thank you!" to them.

What: The Freedom Rally Against Terror and Tyranny

When: Saturday, October 25, 2003, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: The West Front of the Capitol Building at 3rd Street, on the Mall.

Bring: American and Gadsden flags (large and small,) service and Blue Star flags, and signs bearing messages of support for our troops.

This rally will be held rain or shine.

As always, the D.C. Chapter's rules for protesting will be in effect. Briefly, they are: No violence, no profanity, no racism, no provocations, obey the law and treat all law enforcement officers with respect.

This will be the 6th rally in the last 18 months we have sponsored. We haven't done them all by ourselves and we are most appreciative of the help we have received. We humbly ask once again for any help that can be provided to send a message of support for our troops. Please click here to help.

WASHINGTON — Vietnam (search) veteran David Cline sees resemblances between the war in Iraq and the one in which he almost lost his life.





"This has got a lot of eerie parallels to what we went through," Cline said.

As president of Veterans for Peace (search), Cline planned to join protesters Saturday to demonstrate against the war.

Organizers predicted more than 30,000 people would turn out in Washington for a march and speeches calling for the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq. Thousands more were expected to flock to San Francisco for the biggest protest there since April, when more than 10,000 people filled the streets.

"The U.S. government has no right to try and recolonize Iraq," said Peta Lindsay, national youth and student coordinator for International ANSWER (search) (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism), which is organizing the protests with another group, United for Peace and Justice.

ANSWER coordinator Brian Becker said the anti-war movement has gained more support since May 1, when President Bush declared an end to major combat in Iraq.

"With each passing month, more and more Americans become disillusioned with the occupation of Iraq," said Becker.

To counter the anti-war demonstrations, the Washington chapter of Free Republic, an independent grass-roots conservative group, also planned a rally for Saturday at the U.S. Capitol, where organizers expect about 1,000 people.

"We support our troops and the commander in chief and their mission," said Kristinn Taylor, co-leader of the group.

The anti-war rally at the Washington Monument was to be followed by a march to the White House and Justice Department. Speakers include former Attorney General Ramsey Clark and Martin Luther King III.

Organizers said most of the protesters will be high school and college students coming from more than 140 cities in the United States and Canada. Becker said Muslim groups, veterans, and families who have loved ones in Iraq or in the military also plan to attend.

"We feel compelled to take part in this because we think this war is wrong," said Charley Richardson, one of the co-founders of the group Military Families Speak Out. "It never should have been fought in the first place."



For the West Coast protest, ANSWER and several other groups -- Bay Area United Against War, Not in Our Name, United for Peace and Justice, and the Vanguard Foundation -- have arranged transportation and protest logistics for protesters from Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and 27 California cities

It was good seeing you there buddy! Those that did not make it missed quite an experience. The speakers were awesome, DC Chapter is to be commended on a great job. Too bad FR did not get behind this entire venture. I just read the Washington Times and they linked the 2 counterprotesters to our group...the ones that had the homophobic signs. No bias...

Anyone notice Vigo Mortenson of Lord of the Rings on C-Span? Now who's gonna pay to see the Lord of the Rings pt3 in theatres? Not me.

Washington demonstrations for, against war

WASHINGTON, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- The largest anti-war rally in the nation's capital since President Bush announced the end of major combat operations in Iraq was greeted by an equally boisterous, if not as large numerically, group of the president's policy supporters.

The groups gathered Saturday in generally peaceful protests, with minor confrontations -- such as the throwing of eggs and plastic bottles and verbal exchanges -- marking the short period when the anti-war and pro-Bush groups converged near Pershing Park. Police had established a strong presence ahead of the marches and had installed additional surveillance cameras to track both gatherings.

Antiwar groups expected a turnout of up to 30,000 people, while war supporters expected as many as 1,000 to attend. An exact figure for neither group was available. Antiwar organizers United for Peace and Justice and ANSWER scheduled the protest to coincide with the second anniversary of the Patriot Act.

The Patriot Act was passed shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on New York and Washington in which some 3,000 people died. The measure gave the government additional powers, which it said it needed to stop future attacks. The act's detractors say it represents an infringement on basic rights in the United States.

Kathryn Wood, co-leader of the DC Chapter of the Free Republic, which supports the war, said the group had a counter-rally because "the ANSWER people came to town -- we can't let them be the only voice."

And you as well! It was quite the experience. I went with the Protest Warriors to the other side of the mall. On the way we got mixed comments. Some for us, some against us.

Was reading another post about how we broke out in 'God Bless America' to counter the shouts from the lefties.
