The poor folks may not be as naive as that California lady who went swimming with
the seals (I'm sure it was a spiritual experience while it lasted), but got herself
killed by a great white shark that probably confused her for food (the seals she was with).
But the sad truth is being from Malibu, CA, they probably didn't have a firearm.
From all the stories I've heard about "wildlife", I've decided to just about
not camp in bear or cougar country in a tent, unless I'm really ready to meet my Maker.

It's hard to envision a scenario where a lone bear (and they don't generally hunt in groups) would have the chance to kill TWO properly armed humans.
Generally, the one whose neck isn't being chomped starts blasting.
