Two killed in Alaska bear attack

KING SALMON, Alaska - Two people were killed in an apparent bear attack near Kaflia Bay in Katmai National Park on the Alaska Peninsula, Alaska State Troopers said Tuesday.

The bodies were found Monday when a pilot with Andrew Airways arrived to pick up the man and woman and take them to Kodiak, troopers said.

The pilot saw a bear, possibly on top of a body, in the camp and contacted the National Park Service in King Salmon and state troopers in Kodiak.

Park rangers encountered an aggressive bear when they arrived at the campsite and killed it. Investigators then found human remains buried by a bear near the campsite.

The victims, believed to be in their late 30s to early 40s, were from Malibu, Calif. Their identities are being withheld pending notification of relatives.

The remains and the entire campsite were packed out and transported to Kodiak on the Andrew Airways flight.

As the plane was being loaded, another aggressive bear approached and was killed by park rangers and troopers.

The bodies were flown to the state medical examiner’s office for autopsy.

That's a fun movie if it isn't taken seriously. I wish they would have dressed the black guy in a red jacket ala StarTrek. LOL.

The funny part is when they spend all their time screwing around with the needle and leaf on a sunny morning trying to figure out which way is North.

Thinking . . . thinking . . . thinking.

Seems like the planting of the spear technique might work with a big cat. A big cat will jump right into you and ignore the spear. A bear, though, likes to stand up and swat; some kind of Ultimate Boxing. Odds are not good mano a mano. The grizzly is soooo big that if you can get behind his shoulders he might not be able to reach you. It would be historical if you managed that one.

Damn right !.........Everybody ask's me what the hell I'm doing with a ruger number one in 460 Weatherby Magnum and a .500 Linebaugh Ruger Bisley. I tell em not much if I can help it ! I was stationed in Alaska for 4 years and I have to tell ya when I was standing on the bank or in a stream I never had enough gun IMO. Lazzeroni has developed a 12.04 Bibimufu (?) wildcat round that has 1000 more foot pounds of energy than the 460 Wthby Mag. I saving my duckets for that purchase !

Stay Safe !

My cabin in NY is open to anybody who wants to bag a deer, in season. Only, you gotta convince NY you are allowed to own a gun.

Watch out for bears.

I actually re-created that leaf/compass thing with some seeds in water on accident. It works.

The bear's name is Bart. I bet his trainer is hootin' & hollerin' bout now.

You can stop a 33' Jamboree RV with a .45-70.

Speaking of which, does anybody in our hunting trip have a >30' RV? Mine's only 22'.

Allriiiighhht.

Hey, on the other thread, someone's saying you can stop a bear using a soft, cooing voice. This sounds like a neat experiment.

I'll do the soft cooing, harpseal can level the .45-70.

WHOA! Nobody has SET A DATE! I don't know about you folks, but I'm a poor underpaid teacher who can't afford a hunt like that....but in my fondest dreams. Travis is a wealthy author...HE can. Unless I sell a screenplay soon, I'm gonna have to keep this in the "dreaming for the distant future" category. I could maybe make it as far as Georgia...for a Deer hunt. LOL/LAL! On the other hand, if my Agent makes a sale...count me in...but I can't count unhatched chickens, or my wife will cook my goose! Txflake can give her a recipe.

No fair. You can't mention 45-70 without a hint what kind of metal is surrounding it. What rifle are you writing about?
