Two killed in Alaska bear attack

KING SALMON, Alaska - Two people were killed in an apparent bear attack near Kaflia Bay in Katmai National Park on the Alaska Peninsula, Alaska State Troopers said Tuesday.

The bodies were found Monday when a pilot with Andrew Airways arrived to pick up the man and woman and take them to Kodiak, troopers said.

The pilot saw a bear, possibly on top of a body, in the camp and contacted the National Park Service in King Salmon and state troopers in Kodiak.

Park rangers encountered an aggressive bear when they arrived at the campsite and killed it. Investigators then found human remains buried by a bear near the campsite.

The victims, believed to be in their late 30s to early 40s, were from Malibu, Calif. Their identities are being withheld pending notification of relatives.

The remains and the entire campsite were packed out and transported to Kodiak on the Andrew Airways flight.

As the plane was being loaded, another aggressive bear approached and was killed by park rangers and troopers.

The bodies were flown to the state medical examiner’s office for autopsy.

I agree with you to a point -- about cats. But I think most dogs are different, again, with the exception of Chows. (no flames, please.)

Like I always tell my dog and cat obsessed friends, if your pet was bigger than you, he would eat you. Animals are incapable of Love, what they express to us is pure fear and submission. We misinterpret it as Love.

I wonder what makes you say that. Is it personal experience or scientific studies?

It was a joke for Squantos....I think that stuff is an urban (rural legend) however tribal folks have killed large predators with spears historically and not always in a group.

Did not Bill Hickock allegedly kill a grizzly with a knife in his early adulthood?

If you guys get together, I would love to be a part of that.

I was supposed to be on a black bear hunt in Montana this fall but I had some unexpected bills. I have a couple of friends in Libby and they know all the good spots.

txflake, you have my vote. The way I burn water when I try to get something to eat, I'm always interested in someone taking over the food preparation.

Well, we gotta think on it some. Maybe Idaho or Montana etc would be easier.

I've had that "prey" feeling sometimes when snorkeling on reefs, and swimming in the ocean.

What's the movie from a few years ago with the two guys surviving in Alaska after a plane crash? Fire-hardened spears against brown bears made a pretty good test. I think long strong spears would be better than bows. It's an interesting question.

I think that Masai tribesmen had to kill an adult male lion with only their shield and short spear to earn their manhood.

Have you heard about the novel I wrote? It features a very strong young lady as the protagonist, and you might find it interesting.

I've been in the Ugly Girl games at the best NCO clubs and titty bars in the world, rendered safe explosive devices and ordnance, jumped out of planes and swam with sharks and gators.....hell I even was on the Hildebeasts USSS security detail.......... I ain't afraid of nothing but Squantos don't poke sharp stick in the bears butt unless he's very very very very very drunk and stoooooooopid. Me and Bears have an agreement. I don't hunt them and they don't hunt me. They indicate they are about to break that unwritten agreement then I break out the 105MM if I can find it !

Them critters are not to be toyed with ........Stay Safe !

I saw a hunting video of Chuck Adams ...bow hunter extream who stood up about 12 yards from the biggest Kodiak I ever saw and it looked like a cartoon when he drew back and stuck that arrow in that bears "A" zone. The bear stood up, looked at Adams and just walked away......bled out really slow as I remember the tracking time.

What they didn't show was the three guides with an arsenal of magnums, cocked, aimed and 2.5 pounds of pressure on a three pound trigger already....

Amazing video......Old CA is one dumb MoFo IMHO............but he's got quite a story to tell his grandkids. Who no doubt will think gramps is whack in the head !

Stay Safe !

Thanks for the invite. I'd love to come. Want to hear some more stories about Ft. Lewis while we sit around the campfire.

Biggest calibre i've got is a .308. Now that I might have to go to Alaska, maybe i'll go out and buy some real iron.
