Alaska State Troopers seized dozens of bottles of alcohol and thousands of grams of marijuana in September that were bound for Western Alaska, officials said Friday.
Troopers with the Western Alaska Alcohol and Narcotics Team at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport seized 95 750-milliliter bottles and one 375-milliliter bottle of alcohol, troopers said in a press release. They also seized 2,371 grams, about 5.2 pounds, of marijuana.

Notice how the cops use the smallest liquid measurment possible to make the bust sound big.Just to put it in perspective a 12 ounce can of pepsi is about 375 milliliters and while we are discusing the bust. Why are police resources wasted going after alchohol bottles when there are real serious crimes being committed all across the state that go unsolved every year because al l the state cops are at the airport looking for shot bottles of booze?

You could fit all the contraband into a Geo, in any event.

Todays science lesson...Metric Volume
0.75 liter & 0.375 liter
750-milliliter & 375-milliliter
The metric system has prefix modifiers that are multiples of 10.
A kiloliter is 1000 liters (1000000 cubic centimeter (cc) = 61,023.7438368 cubic inch)
A hectoliter is 100 liters
A decaliter is 10 liters
A liter is the basic unit of volume (1000 cubic centimeters = 61.0237438 cubic inch)
A deciliter is 1/10 liter
A centiliter is 1/100 liter
A milliliter is 1/1000 liter (1 cubic centimeter (cc) = 0.0610237 cubic inch)
As we move down the units, the next unit is one tenth as large. As we move upward, each unit is 10 times as large. One hundred milliliters, which is 1/10 liter (100/1000=1/10) are larger than one centiliter (1/100th liter).
No wonder we are so screwed up in Canada..we gotta know both SAE & Metric measurements and French
Mon dieu, ma tête endommage!

thousands of grams of marijuana
In other words, they seized a couple of pounds.

You could fit all the contraband into a Geo, in any event.Probably could, but you couldn't drive your GEO to Nome, Kotzebue, Bethel or Nome.

Why can't booze be transported to Western Alaska? Because alot of the villages are run by Native Alaskans who have banned hooch. Many Eskimos are like American Indians in that they simply can't handle their liquor.

I wont comment on "racist"
But
Over 30% of the prison population in AK is "Native" (vice 16% of the population (about))
Most of the jail time is for crimes while under the influence. Alcohol is not "a" problem in rural AK - it "IS" the problem.......
If you think that the earlier post is racist, (insensitive, or bad English maybe, inaccurate, certainly) fly up to KOTZ or Barrow on a payday Friday and walk the streets - you may be in for a lesson.

residents can call the Bethel Western Alaska Alcohol and Narcotics Team at 543-2294 or toll-free at 1-800-478-2294. Uh, yes, hello is this the alcohol hotline? I'm sitting here with a big bottle of sour mash, Knob Creek, I think. Could you send a car over to save me and my neighbors from it? Thanks.

I find it "racist" because the poster assumes that no alaska native has discovered that if on takes a bottle of fruit juice, adds yeast, and, to boost alchohol content, sugar, one has in short order, booze.
Instead, one implies that alaskans are so ignorant as to have to import booze. That, while they have the world's cheepest and earliest distilling system free to them (SCRAPE OFF THE ICE).
Nevermind that my greatgranny homsteaded in Alaska. Nevermind my own time on the Yukon, or at Greely.
Alaska folks are so dumb, they must rely on a few pints of imported booze.
Whatever.
