That's right. We eat salmon at least twice a week and also walnuts and pecans instead of other animal protein. We put flax seed on salads and use only olive oil for salads or cooking. In fact, when we air pop corn, we use olive oil instead of butter. Tastes pretty good.

I'm in the midwest and I buy 1 1/2 pound bags of them at Sam's for $8-$9. It's much better then times past when the only ones available were from Blue Diamond. Those little jars gave you 10 nuts for over $5. Crazy....

They were more expensive where they were grown than on the mainland for the same brand.

Look, I don't want to get in a flame war with you but you are so wrong. You make it sound like the human body follows "forces of physics" -a calorie is a calorie and now, Doctors have finally learned after listening to their patients, that some calories are different for some people.
I can guarantee that on the old Weight Watcher's - low calorie, but fairly high in carbs, I gained 2 pounds a week.
In order to lose weight, I have had to go on extreme diets as my body just does not give up the stored fat easily. Even with excess amounts of exercise.
For me, Atkins has been a God-send - a way of eating that allows me to not have to take drugs for hunger, and exercise like a nut, as I already wrecked my knees, running and playing racquetball BY MYSELF as a young professional, in order to keep my weight at a normal range.
I am closing in on my goal weight - no drugs, no insufferable hunger, no exercising like a nut, and I, for one, no longer believe in the USDA food pyramid. It is pure fiction. Not do I believe that just cutting calories and exercising is the thing to do.
So if it works for you, Fine. Do it. But there are those of us for whom Atkins is the only way we can get the pounds off.

I am soooooo envious of those dark purple Keto sticks. I have never EVER turned one of those dang things darker than a pale beige! I can be burning weight like crazy, but for whatever reason, I never seem to get into Lipolysis and so I've thrown away the last of my stock of Keto sticks, and just watch the scale and my clothes for the results.
I guess I'm what is described as "insulin resistant" but I have learned to just not get disappointed over the Keto stick things.

Portobellos
When you cook with portobellos do you scrape off the gills underneath the cap?
I did this when I made soup or sautee them to go with steak.
What do you recomend? I thought the stuff underneath the cap would color the soup a weird color.
I appreciate your advice. Taffini

your plateau, have you tried cutting out the franken-food (bars, shakes, etc.)? If you aren't doing franken-food, but still are stalled, try drinking more water. You might also be sensitive to nuts or cheese. Try cutting those out and see what happens.
What is "franken-food bars"? Are these the low carb bars? Do they keep you from loosing weight? I have 1-2 a day and my weight is slooooooow to come off.

Except that I will prolly change the syrup to "Chocolate" extract, I like this idea. I am so tired of decaf coffee (even my Kona, for Pete's sake!!) and Diet RC. This has given me the incentive to make more of my own drinks.
What is the deal with regular coffee and regular diet pop on Atkins? Are these off the food list on this diet?

Green Beans with Bacon and Almonds
One 16 oz package frozen French style green beans, thawed
One 16 oz package bacon, cooked and crumbled
1/2 cup slivered almonds
What the heck wouldn't taste good with a pound of bacon on it Carlo!

PortobellosWhen you cook with Portobellos do you scrape off the gills underneath the cap?I did this when I made soup or sauté them to go with steak. What do you recommend? I thought the stuff underneath the cap would color the soup a weird color. The usual Pre-preparation of most varieties of mushroom is to remove any loose material with a dry cotton cloth or soft brush.. there is no need to do anything else, and washing begins the deterioration process. Those spongy membranes are the flavor but can be removed if the intention is to use a mushroom as a vessel such as a natural cup, or holder for fancy stuffings. Crab, dips and almost anything mashed will stay formed in a hollowed out cap.
Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms
- 1 dozen fresh small to medium Portobello mushrooms (Portobello's are usually quite a bit larger than their counterparts)
- 1/2 cup melted butter, divided
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped green bell pepper
- 3 tablespoons finely chopped onion
- 1 1/2 cup fresh bread crumbs (I know about the carbs.. heheheh)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- dash black pepper
- dash ground cayenne pepper
- Parmesan cheese
Directions for stuffed mushrooms
1) Clean mushrooms (as described above); remove stems, leaving caps whole. Chop stems.
2) Sauté mushroom caps in 3 tablespoons of butter; set aside. Sauté chopped stems, green pepper, and chopped onion in remaining butter until onion is tender; stir in bread crumbs, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper. Stir to mix well.
3) Stuff each mushroom cap with bread crumb mixture; sprinkle each stuffed mushroom with a little Parmesan cheese. Place stuffed mushrooms in a greased baking dish.
Bake at 325° for 15 minutes.
Recipe serves about 6 - 8.

Doctor friends of mine, an internists of 35 years experience, a cardiologist of 25 years practice and an oncologist all use the Atkins diet themselves. A pharmacist friend who has been pushing pills for 40 years does also.

Another easy recipe for you and the gang.....
CHILI CHEESE EGG PUFF
10-12 eggs (12 if small)
1 can green chilies, diced (mild to med)
1 16 oz container cottage cheese
1 lb cheese, shredded (use whatever combo you like or just
Cheddar
1 12 oz pkg Jimmy Dean Sausage, cooked and drained
any flavor
1/2 cup flour (low carb)
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup butter, melted
Mix all ingredients well and pour into a greased 9x13 pan. Bake at
350* for 40 to 50 minutes until set. Let stand 10 minutes
before cutting.
This is very low carb especially depending on what flour you use.
Serve hot as a breakfast casserole or chill and cut into small
squares for appetizers.
