White flag vanity: Will/should McClintock be offered a BIG post in Arnold's administration?

I say yes. If there's bad blood, it's no more than between Bush Sr. and Reagan after the 1980 primaries. Remember Bush Sr. talked of REagan's "voodoo economics". McClintock has pulled his punches re. Arnold; he didn't fire at him at the debate. McClintock has elevated the issues discussion and kept Arnold from straying too far left.

Besides that, we could USE McClintock's expertise in a high budget and policymaking post.

The only argument I could see on the other side is that McC would be better groomed to take on Boxer in the US Senate race.

Again, by staying in the race, McClintock balanced the opposition: two Republicans against two Democrats. In the battle between Liberals and Conservatives, Tom is the Conservative and Davis/Bustamente are the Liberals. This allowed Arnold to claim the vast middle ground where most of the votes are, IMO, and may have allowed a GOP win next Tuesday. I don't know if this was an intentional strategy by the GOP. Tom belongs in the US Senate instead of Boxer or Feinstein.

You mean returning fire on the party that's repeatedly stabbed HIM in the back, right?

Most of the bad blood is between their supporters. I think a job for McClintock is a definite possibility and a very good idea.

I say let him run for the US Senate seat.

He certainly has name recognition now. Keep him out of Arnold's admin so he can start the Senate campaign.

Most of the bad blood is between their supporters. After all is said and done McClintock contributed a lot to the race and will probably help take the recall over the top. I think that part of the reason Schwarzenengger is so high in the polls is that some of McClintocks credibility rubbed off on him.

So the state party was put on this earth to serve Tom McClintock. How arrogant.

I have no idea what will happen.

When it's all over, it would be good for Schwarzenegger to speak magnainmously of McClintock, and for McClintock to do likewise for Arnold. I think Arnold's got it in him, moreso than his advisors.

I don't know about offering Tom a post, or about him accepting it.

I think a better course for Tom is to ride the car tax and Save Our License ballot propositions, and demonstrate to the party eleders that his clout in the elctorate is not insubstantial.

You say Tom's 1) a meaningless speed bump; and 2) he stabbed the party in the back. Can't be both, friend.

Why not? You can get malaria from one mosquito bite.

If his candidacy hasn't arrested the party's forward momentum (ie he's a small speed bump only) then the party hasn't been stabbed in the back.

The "stabbing in the back" consists of alleged conservatives attacking other conservatives.

What McC HAS done is keep Arnold from sounding like Buffett.

"An amorous flea once saw a female elephant pass by and hopped on her to hitch a ride. Hours later, the flea arrived next to the elephant's nether regions and positioned himself to mate with her. As the elephant walked along, she stepped on a thorn and trumpeted loudly. The flea's response? "Yeah, you felt THAT, didn't you!?!?! Who's your daddy?!?"

When it became obvious that McWampum cared more for receiving Indian money than actually putting himself or somebody else into a position to win the governor's race, the vast majority of party members simply followed the old dictum about not throwing money or political support down a rathole. That's not backstabbing, that's common sense.

McWampum cared more for receiving Indian money

1. Most of the Indian money spent on his behalf was done through independent expenditures.

2. Just because Arnold decided he didn't want Indian money, McClintock is under no obligation to do likewise.

3. Are Arnold's contributors any less "special interests?"

The only legitimate issue with regard to the Indian money is Bustamante's Illegal use of it.

Changing the subject now, and throwing in a red herring to boot.

I'm referring to previous statewide runs.

Argue with facts, or admit you're full of it.

Dear Conservative Friends. From what I have witnessed from the majority of you on my list, this note is probably unnecessary. But I wish to convey how much I appreciate all that I've seen in each of you standing up, on one thread or another, to some of the most rotten disrupters this great website has ever had to endure.

I have pinged you to #2 above because it is so very well indicative of where the CAGOP thuggery has relegated you and your values in their scheme of things. It illustrates well why you must fight the impulse to give in to them and their smarmy campaign against you and what you hold dear. And why you must work hard in the next few days to convince others too. There are more than you know who are hoping to hear from you. They WANT you to ask for their votes.

This site has provided you so much more material than any average voter could possibly get anywhere else. You are THE expert on the issues in your neighborhood. Give voice to your wisdom. Be calm. Lay out the options. Most importantly show, with the little time you will have available to you, how, in a few areas, (R)nold is admittedly worse on paper than even Davis or Buste (as on the environment).

Also, please review the stirring words of blackelk at #19, as it might help you see where your efforts this weekend will begin to take us, win or lose this battle.

Most of you know that Tom McClintock represents YOUR views, however hopeless the Establishment of the Left and of the pseudo-Right wishes you to believe Tom's prospects are.

We can still pull this off because California needs a stirring shift to the Right, and independents know it, and even many Democrats are willing to give Tom a chance for three short years.

Though he does not speak in Churchillian tones, we have seen that Tom has the temperament to withstand the harpies as few we've seen in our lifetime.

Perhaps it's been his strength -- maybe you've witnessed it first hand -- that compelled you to defend him and to defend yourselves where ever you encountered the (R)nold and Leftist-plant agit-prop agents. I am sure it was not pleasant. Whatever you endured, I am sure you did so because you saw in Tom the closest person we have to a Churchill in his standing firm, no matter how much you wish it weren't so that we need someone like that.

Yes, we clearly have lost much of value over the years, and we don't want to lose out at this chance for a turn around, a chance that (R)nold's backers never wanted to see happen in the first place. (R)nold is their safety valve, not yours; (R)nold is their trap, set for you. That's why we need Tom now. He's done what he can do. The rest is up to you.

Get out the vote for Tom McClintock

God give you voice and strength.

Thank you very much.

OC Weekly: The Case for Governor Tom McClintock

"McClintock does not lie, duck debates, accept illegal contributions, hide from reporters, flip-flop positions, defend crooks, pander to special interests, place party loyalty over principles, rely on one-liners, award no-bid contracts, surround himself with sleazy advisors or pretend good government is as simple as marketing a movie."

I will never happen. Pete Wilson and his ilk will commit hari-kari on the capitol steps before they allow a fiscal conservative to join their ranks.

Even if they made the offer, I say no. Tom is essential as a voice of reason in the legislature. The only place better for him would be in the Governor/Treasurer/Controller's offices.

If Tom gave up his Senate Seat to serve under Arnold it would last about 3 months until Arnold's team proposed 1)increased spending 2)smoke and mirrors budget gimmicks or 3)higher taxes at which point Tom would be forced resign to the embarrasment of the administration and we would have nothing.

As the Arnie-bots are fond of pointing out, I am a personal friend of Tom's so I must offer this disclaimer since it somehow affects the facts and reasoning of my arguments (not). I can say however, that as a friend of his I know he wouldn't last. Keep him where he is.

1. Most of the Indian money spent on his behalf was done through independent expenditures.

And trade unions routinely run ads trashing conservative candidates and causes. "But, they're INDEPENDENT EXPENDITURES!"

2. Just because Arnold decided he didn't want Indian money, McClintock is under no obligation to do likewise.

Schwarzenegger didn't take any Indian money because he has standards and knows that they usually freely give to the other side - they were one of Grayout's prime pocketbooks during the last campaign. Schwarzenegger knows about the concept of "playing both sides against the middle," a concept that McClinton apparently ignores. After all, its McClinton who destroyed his own credibility by taking the Indian money, not Schwarzenegger.

3. Are Arnold's contributors any less "special interests?"

Name a couple and the amount they gave him, and I'll be happy to consider them and provide my views on them.

The only legitimate issue with regard to the Indian money is Bustamante's Illegal use of it.

Credibility is an issue. Avoidance of even the appearance of impropriety is another. And, judging by the poll numbers, McClinton has ruined his credibility and made it obvious that he had no other choice than to take the Indian money.

Its time for McClintock and a few of his looney tune supporters to be pitched out of the Republican Party on their collective keisters. (Think of it as flushing the toilet in the Big Tent).

YEAH!!! There is NO room for conservatives in the Republican party, they are always getting in the way of pragmatism and compromise. What the h*ll are those people thinking???!!!!

and demonstrate to the party eleders that his clout in the elctorate is not insubstantial.

Well said in view of the internals from the most recent Field poll.

The GOP would be most unwise to attempt to marginalize a candidate who was still attracting almost 1/3 of registered Repbulican voters late last week in spite of the parties attempts to woo the California conservative.
