The wife of Bush-bashing former U.S. ambassador to Iraq, Joe Wilson is apparently not a covert CIA operative or an undercover agent, though she's been described that way repeatedly since the CIA asked for an investigation on how her identity was made public.
According to columnist Robert Novak, who revealed Mrs. Wilson's name in his July 14 column, sources at the CIA expressly told him she was not a spy.
"According to a confidential source at the CIA, Mrs. Wilson was an analyst, not a spy, not a covert operative, and not in charge of undercover operatives," Novak told his audience on CNN's "Crossfire."
"So what is the fuss about?" he asked, then wondered aloud, "Pure Bush-bashing?"
In fact, in a little-noticed line in the initial Washington Post report on the announcement of the CIA's request for an investigation, the paper noted that "the CIA has declined to confirm whether she was undercover."
Still, hours after Novak went public with a clarification of Mrs. Wilson's status, she was described as a "undercover agent" by former White House chief of staff David Gergen in an interview with Fox News Channel's Greta Van Susteren, and as a "covert agent" by MSNBC's Chris Matthews.

The way the media will back down from this is to start referring to her as a person who "some have called an undercover or covert agent."

Please educate me ... which Christian denomination admonishes its followers over who they vote for and/or threatens excommunication ?
I'm sure that few,if any of us agree 100% with President Bush, or anyother president, for that matter. No politicain is ever going to give his/her supporters 100%, nor even 80% of what they want. But, at least you're going to vote for him again, which is NOT the case for many of Tom's most ardent supporters, no matter where they live.
You would be wrong. The last time I checked Bush was still Pro-Life, Pro-America. The only thing I fault him for is not being Pro-small government. When he looses his pro-life stance and becomes willing to give us over to the UN I will change my mind on Bush. My morals would not let me vote for Arnold but will let me vote for Bush. I have never yet seen a strong pro-choice Republican, they always cave and vote with the dims on moral and economic issues, you might as well vote for the real thing in that case. They don't call them Rhinos for nothing.
The whinning about the conservative Christians not voting for Arnold is rediculous. If the Republican party wanted that vote they would put up people they could vote for not whine when they refuse to budge. Without Tom in the race I would sit this one out for the first time in my life and not vote if I lived in California. It does not, as of this minute corespond to not voting for Bush, besides the only ones I see saying that they refuse to vote for Bush this time around are libertarians who are not likely to vote for Tom anyway.
I have started staying away from the California threads because of comments like yours. If the Republican party wants the conservative Christian vote they will put up people they can vote for, otherwise they need to draw enough people from the left to cover for the loss, because those people would rather not vote than vote for the lesser of evils, because in their minds it is still evil.
If Novak's CIA source spoke in the present tense, and Plame is a former covert operative, then the source could have been speaking the truth, and blowing Plame's cover could still have been a crime.
Now, that's not as crazy as you think. My wifes uncle was a crypie for the CIA in their embassies overseas. He needed a cover identity because being the crypie for the CIA was a secret. Therefore the "cover" identity for him was that he was a crypie for the Pentagon. See, it makes perfect sense.....
wrapping duct tape tightly around my head so that when it explodes I'll still have all of the PIECES......
GEORGE TENET!!
actually, no. We don't know. My personal sources tell me she wasn't. Further, they tell me that she was a Clinton drone put in place as a "spinner" or a "minder" to make sure that the "proper" interpretation of the "evidence" was put forward. None of that is confimed or discredited. Neither is the info that she was a spy. Her husband very pointedly would NOT go on record that his wife was an undercover agent. As a practical matter she's blown, even if she was undecover, so what's he protecting? Certainly not national security. He destoryed that by violating his sworn oath and legal responsibility to keep secret his involvement in the investigation. No matter what else comes out of this he should be branded a criminal, if not a traitor.
My instincts tell me that this is a put up and she's a political drone being used by the enemies of this country. She may or may not be among those enemies. We need to KNOW, not be fed partisan spin.
my anecdote about my wifes uncle was meant only to illustrate that even the most ludicrous set of circumstances shouldn't be taken as proof or as evidence of lack of proof. I want the questions asked and answered. Of Bush's people and of Wilson and his supporters. I want to know who is serving the interests of this country and who is not. I have my prejudices. I want to get some facts.
Personally, my money's on Miss Valerie being the "CIA source" quoted in the July 3 Beeb story that Shermy linked in #121. She and her husband, "the former diplomat", look very much like a husband-wife tag team of Democrat spinners to me.
But, like you, I want to KNOW what's really going on here. I've got my suspicions, but it's far better to have the truth.
Again ... the term RINO, as YOU are using it, is erronious. Please learn the exact meaning of the term prior to using it again.
No one, that I've heard/read, is " whining about Christians not voting for Arnold ". You enjoy making things up, I see.
You're just a DOG IN THE MANGER Conserrvative/GOPer...if you'd stay home, if Tom wasn't in the race and not vote. It's people, such as yourself, who deserve all of the pain, suffering, and taxes, that you'd get, if others didn't know and understand politics, far better than you.
The kind of people YOU are demanding the GOP put up, will LOSE ecery single election. That you don't realize this, is a misfortune. And, dear, " people like me ", include Ann Coulter, the California GOP, almost every CONSERVATIVE talking head on radio & T.V., to mention but a few.
