Still, hours after Novak went public with a clarification of Mrs. Wilson's status, she was described as a "undercover agent" by former White House chief of staff David Gergen in an interview with Fox News Channel's Greta Van Susteren, and as a "covert agent" by MSNBC's Chris Matthews.

The way the media will back down from this is to start referring to her as a person who "some have called an undercover or covert agent."

What Vincent Cannistraro said on Sam Donaldson's radio show this morning is that Plame used to be an undercover CIA operative running agents, and that she is currently still an undercover employee -- or at least was until she was just outed -- and works, currently, as an analyst. He's probably in a position to know.
