Her husband probably bragged to Novak in their bonding on this story that his wife was a top spy in the Agency. If she had been, he would not have mentioned her to Novak.

Well, that's the point of the rhetorical question. Isn't amazing that there is all this exposure without anyone pointing out that a covert agent has to have a cover. How many ambassadorial wives have been covert agents over the years? There is a sort of pathology in Washington about implying covert work that rivals the Schwarzenner movie character in True Lies.

Novak didn't make explicit that he was blowing Plame's cover; what he reported seemed to be more an accusation of nepotism. (Not a very convincing accusation, we might add, since Wilson was not paid for his sojourn to Niger, which is not exactly one of the world's leading vacation spots.)

Here's another theory. Sometimes illegal, unAmerican, unpatriotic things are done by government officials ... even when those officials are Republicans or part of the Bush administration! A radical theory, I know, since Bush is made in the image of God. But a theory that makes sense to me, nonetheless.

This "pro Saudi Middle East Institute" that Wilson works for...and Wesly Clark's claim that on 9/11/01 he got a phone call from the White House, which was "all over" at a "Mideast think tank", apparently in Canada while he was "at home" on "CNN.

Yes, Wilson was Glaspie's Deputy Chief of Mission. I have never seen it written that he spoke Arabic, so I take it for granted that he was an expendable bureaucrat and shipped from Africa to Iraq just before the war. Glaspie had so blotted her copybook that I believe that Bush was thankful for anyone who actually did a commendable job at the embassy in Iraq.
