Please see my post #58. Even if he "withdraws,", McC would remain on the ballot and provide an emergency stopgap should Arnold experience a last-minute meltdown.

In that case, where the hell is my notice about the endorsement meeting? I am a duly qualified and regular member of the committee. I sure as hell wasn't notified.

I think it must be either the Exec. Comm. or Board doing this. The full committee wouldn't stand for it.

Besides, I'm not finding that section of the bylaws you seem to be referencing.

Interesting comments when I was only posing a question and not slamming Arnold.

I think you might be a little too emotional about this and in need of taking a few steps back to consider the problem should it arise.

IF he did pull out as you would all like him to and then a bombshell got dropped against arnold their would be NO viable republican candidates.

Before you go spewing you need to take a hard look at whether you really want him to pull out of the race or not.

Hello Hillary:

This is really no surprise and considering the way this is playing out, was probably decided once the Republican Elite found out Arnold would run.

Once again, the Elite run things, and they don't like change. To have to admit that the California Republican Party is too far left would be too much for them to bear.

But that is exactly what a McClintock Governorship would light up...that in California, the Republican representatives are not conservative in the Reagan model, they are in the Wilson model...which translates into Republicrats...IMHO.

This man will NEVER get a primary vote from me.

And we're supposed to consider that as being important? The only two candidates I've known you to support are Pat Buchanan and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

When are you gonna get around to getting out of the ditches on both sides of the road and drive on the conservative pavement?

Ug......

When is this stupid election?  At this point, I couldn't care less if the people of CA put a gopher in the Governors mansion.

All I know is the rest of us are sick and tired of the never-ending well of "Tom/Arnold sucks and Tom/Arnold doesn't!" threads.

Jeez.....there weren't this many threads about the Presidential election in 2000.

There is also the further consideration that in order to assure that the recall passes, McClintock supporters have to show up and vote recall.

The rabid AS supporters are utterly blind to this little practical fact.

Deborah:

By this weekend, the CA GOP may be embarrassed about this endorsement.

Unfortunately they will never be embarrassed...they have selected their "star" and like Democrats they will defend Arnold no matter what.

Kind of sad to see what is happening when we do have the real deal running...

I am convinced of nothing at this point. I don't play any game by declaring victory more than a week from the conclusion of the last play. I share your desire, but I am seriously concerned by some of the commentary I'm reading on this forum. Every political rule we've grown up abiding by, is being cast to the wind so that "our principled man" can continue to look good. This amounts to dilusional thinking that could cost us dearly.

I hope you understand this isn't directed at you. I appreciate your sentiment.

The title should read -- "The CA Republican Party establishment endorses another liberal Republican"

I guess they needed to hurry up and do it before people see the new USA Today/Gallup Poll:

McClintock 56%
Bustamante 37%

Come on conservatives, it's time to stick together and reject the latest country club effort to get us to vote against our conscience. We booted Riodan -- now it's time to show Arnold the door and rally around a REAL conservative. Go Tom Go!!

An excellent point.

If their candidate is villified by his own party there may be enough fo a backlash to cause problems.

Quote from Tom McClintock: "I have never been popular in the country club wing of the Republican Party."

Spoken like a loser and a whiner who wants to use a tired old Democrat tactic of reverse-snobbery and class warfare..........the truth is, he's not popular with those kinds of successful Republicans because he's a professional politician whose career means everything and the good of the people means nothing NOTHING to him.......philosophically strong, but as far as human character goes Tom is no better than Daschle anymore.

That's hilarious.

The tactics you folks have employed in defense of Arnold and in the attempt to destroy Tom have only been exceeded by one campaign I've ever seen--Clinton's.

McClintock has a passion for the State, and not the Federal Government, IMO...he would be hurt if they do not support him for Controller (again).

But that's the politics is the LEAD err Golden State.
