"Before the California recall race got under way gubernatorial candidate Tom McClintock made a private pledge to step aside if his campaign threatened to spoil Republican chances to take power in Sacramento. "

=== Do "principled conservatives" usually break their pledges?

Oh man...this is quite the contradiction to his statements to Hannity that he would NOT drop out even if he were still behind and his staying in would hand the governorship to Busty.

I sense another major flame war a-brewin'

""He has the chance to be a real hero and I believe that he is a good man and he will take that chance at the right time."

===

The "right time" was Sept 8th, when people were starting to send in their absentee ballots.

And he is still in the race, when it's way PAST time.

And is running those ridiculous ads, claiming he can win.

Pathetic.

Mexico City's "man" in Sacreemeento and [Indian "nation"] one-armed-bandit-boosting Bustamental's, fellow Californicating-DemocRepublicrat-machine career politician "McJeffords" -- and "integrity" -- in the same sentence?

As a Tom McClintock supporter I am calling for him to step aside.

Arnold may well win with Tom in the race, but if the win is narrow there will be a lawsuit by the ACLU.

Lets get Arnold in with large numbers - he will owe us.

I trust someone has made both Arnold and McClintock how important it is that from the beginning to the end of tonight's debate all fire must be directed at the enemy not an ally. If anything they should be praising each other for holding what is important to California ahead of what is important to them personally or the party for that matter. California needs leadership that will take them back from the track to bankruptcy. In the next few days, one will have to call on their people to get behind the other to insure that the job gets done. The proper call on that should be evident in the next few days.

he told me a couple of things that when you have these kind of conversations you never forget," Issa told Hannity.

I think this will be like the Burton call. McClintock will not remember it the same way.

How can he drop out when he's the only conservative left in the race?

Tom can have it several ways.

In the debates he can clearly state the conservative line.

He can sniff the wind to learn precisely where he stands.

Before dropping out, he can extract promises.

He can make a last day appeal to all his voters to circle the wagons and vote for Arnold.

I think what McClintock in mind was if someone else
like Simon, or some Republican Congressman had
become clear alternative to Arnold he would
have dropped out for them not he would drop
out for Arnold a RINO.

He is closing in on Arnold and he has favorable
to negative ratio is much better than Arnold's
or Cruz's.

He also is about to kick Arnold's butt tonight!
