A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Hurricane War Stories

Tell us your Isabel war story here, if indeed you have electricity to do so.

Well, it was not the prettiest radar image for weather.

Having spent the last week staring at loads of NOAA weather graphs, all my block has to show for the event is a tree right across from my house that basically aimed at my house but was too small to hit it. Two of my neighbors helped me saw it away and we opened up our street for business. I'm not certain, but it may well be illegal to clear a downed tree on public ground in this city!

The winds around here never got too bad, their worst in DC was around midnight:

But that was strong enough to leave many homes without power, and I and many other volunteers worked our muscles sore after the storm distributing ice to powerless neighbors. My hurricane relief work will have to constitute my excuse for missing the DC Chapter's meeting Sunday, but rumor has it tgslTakoma was out of electricity and so cooked up a storm of food for the meeting!

Well, that hurricane behaved just like a Democrat, didn't it? Mindlessly destructive and noisy!
Hmm, sounds like a top ten list. Share with us your hurricane war story and I'll share with you my hurricane top ten list.

Top Ten Reasons that Isabel was a Democrat

10. It was an expensive mess.

 9. The United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit didn't try to stop it.

 8. It received an inordinate amount of press attention.

 7. It harmed rich and poor alike.

 6. It behaved irrationally.

 5. It favored the East Coast of the U.S.

 4. It gave federal government workers two days off for free.

 3. Its statistics were overblown, inaccurate, and highly misleading.

 2. It was mindlessly noisy.

and the number one reason why Isabel is a Democrat . . . .  1. It thrived on hot air.

After the big ice storm a few years ago MLG & W started aggressively trimming the "tree" lines. What doesn't get trimmed are trees in peoples yards. They are the major cause of down lines. They are the lines which are also the LAST ones repaired. Memphis' inland hurricane, damaged 70% of our traffic lights, and left half the county in the dark. Transformers got hit left and right, there were so many out that MLG & W had to order more from the factory, which meant it took even longer to get the power back up, as it had to use all they had in stock. The storm even damaged the main MLG & W bldg badly. Shut the water system down as there was no power to run the pumps.

The storm here was every bit as bad as Isabel was.
