- You can reach Mary Jo Melone at
mjmelone@sptimes.com or 226-3402.
YOU CAN'T REACH MARY JO MELONE....PERIOD!

I see this was her reply to those of who wrote to her. I may have to try to send in more powerful writers...
She is just the same old academic mouthpiece. As I am sure you know, Wesley has written about these bioethics and ethics committees at hospitals. They were apparently the brainchild of the good doctor in Minnesota, and that seems to coincide well with some of the early stuff I found in the NEJM the other day.
We're very, very far-gone. It is way past the hour.

PS This woman is aching to be a personal testimony to the terminal dehydration experience she speaks so fondly of.

Mary Jo Melone at it again: http://www.sptimes.com/2003/09/25/Columns/Let_Schiavo_fade_away.shtml [snip] If this isn't malicious I don't know what is.I'm sorry. I couldn't resist telling the good folks on FR about Melone's column.
Let Schiavo fade away, as so many others do
stevenmc has already asked a good question over there.
I haven't followed this case as much as some people have. My question is: what do this woman's brain scans show? Is there any activity going on up there? I've seen the videos, and they are compelling, but I'm not an expert and her reactions to stimulus could be merely reflexive. So what do her brain scans show?

I provided ALL THE ST. PETE TIMES PHONE NUMBERS ABOVE. St. Pete Times employees are APPALLED TOO. Certain departments said, the more Letters to the Editor the better. Other depts. said "keeping calling the subscription line." One staffer avoids Melone because it makes their blood pressure goes up.
I THINK SHE SHOULD BE FIRED or ISSUE A BIG RETRACTION, even if being a columnist gives her more latitude.

I just e-mailed Ms. Malone my "thoughts" on this piece of drivel.
I had to wait a few minutes though, to stop shaking from the anger I felt after reading this.
How can these people be so blind to the truth?

Melone's column today is a perfect example of HATE SPEECH. Stunning that a liberal newspaper would now edit their City & State section for content. They should be held accountable right along with Melone for printing HATE SPEECH in a metropolitan newspaper. My call list is a good place to start. The hate speech angle might just shake their tree.
Further, don't you think we should also email Howard Troxler of the Times so he knows how OUTRAGED we are at the hate speech in his paper?

I called Ms. Melone and talked to her in a rational
but with a little emotion of how I was appalled at
her article, etc. and how I don't have an agenda but
that I am concerned for what is happening to Terri,
that her "husband" does not have her best interests
at heart, how the facts of the case bear out the
criminal nature of his acts, etc. She asked me if
the Judges in the case who have consistently ruled
for Mr. Schiavo could possibly be wrong. I said that
Mr. Greer is playing games and even got the Sheriff
to lie for him, etc. and has done other things that
indicate that he is not looking out for Terri's best interests. She said that you can call the editor etc.
and about the internet and I told her that I am
very active on the internet so I know what to do but
that I wanted her to know that I was appalled by what
she wrote and that perhaps she should take a look at
the facts of the case. She was saying she respects the judicial process. I just told her about Michael etc.
and how after the malpractice lawsuit 3 years later he just remembers after winning all the money that Terri wouldn't want to live on life support or "artificially"
to show that he obviously has criminal intentions. She asked then why the judges threw it out, etc. who presided over the proceedings, etc. Anywayz I ended telling her about getting the facts and that I just had to call to tell her how appalled I was.
