I kind of doubt it too.Read the same report at Debkafile this evening. Now that makes two highly reliable sources doesn't it [sarcasm].

For what its worth, my gut tells me he is not in Iraq, don't ask me why. Have any of his so-called 'doubles' been captured?

Correction: The "source" is a tabloid paper reporting on an article from a tabloid paper. IOW . . . (TABLOID)2

Saddam was demanding safe passage to the former Soviet republic of Belarus in exchange for information on weapons of mass destruction....I've heard this story somewhere before.

Debka is becoming more right than wrong as of the last few years...imo. I would not be surprised one bit if this were true. The U.S. could very well have him in custody already and nobody knows. We wait to get every bit out of him and then give him to a world court. Bush then hands the UN and the pussies that wouldn't back us a shot at Saddam in a world court.
He will die waiting for his trial to be complete like Slob. This could be Bush's trump card right here and October surprise...don't count him out folks...the White House has been very silent in the face of massive criticism from the left.
Bush will slam dunk them and Clark and Dean will fall down to a 2% chance against W.
WMD,Saddam, and at least 500,000 new jobs and Bush is a lock for 2004.

The source is a tabloid paper. Ignore it. I don't know. Saw a recent Weekly World News and Saddam was on the front, hiding out as a janitor.
To: yonif
Folks, think about the timing of this article. For weeks now all we have heard from the liberal press is a steady drum beat of "NO WMD IN IRAQ". Now this! I'd say the fella that said this is BRAVO SIERRA is right on the money.

Assuming that this isn't Bravo Sierra...
I'm guessing that the U.S. is looking for some proof of WMD first.
Worst case is SH comes in and says that the WMD don't exist.

"A representative of Saddam in Western-style civilian clothes came to coalition people at Tikrit at sunset on September 12. He led them to a house where the security official was waiting," the Sunday Mirror quoted a senior Iraqi as saying. Why do I suspect that the guy in "Western-style civilian clothes" is Elvis, and the "security official" is Bigfoot? Transportation to Belarus or the nearest convenient parallel dimension can be arranged by the space aliens, I suppose.
Sure, this all may be true, but it has Weekly World News written all over it. It's too pat.
Besides, Nostradamus and Jeane Dixon never said anything about this.

Now, the big question. Is it true?

What doesn't sit right is last week the new tape of Saddam demanding other's join in the jihad against us, was that a ruse from our side?
