(September 9, 2003)--"The Clinton Presidential Center Cookbook: A Collection of Recipes from Family and Friends" will be released Friday September 12 at a Little Rock media conference. Produced by the Clinton Presidential Foundation, the cookbook contains over 250 recipes from President Clinton, Senator Hillary Clinton, family, friends, celebrities, White House staff and members of the Clinton Cabinet. Proceeds from sales of the book go the construction of the Clinton Presidential Center and the operation of the Clinton Presidential Foundation. In addition to recipes, the book also includes stories and photographs.
Media copies of the first edition collectors cookbook will be available Friday at 10 a.m. on the third floor of the Cox Creative Center, 120 Commerce Street, in Little Rock's River Market District. In addition to copies of the cookbook, there will be samples of some recipes featured in the book. Co-editors Shannon Butler and Nealon Devore each have included one of their favorite recipes in the book and will be present for interviews.
Celebrity recipes include among others Muhammad Ali, Bono, Christie Brinkley, James Carville, Chevy Chase, Clarence Clemons, Whoopi Goldberg, Don Henley, Quincy Jones, Sophia Loren, Mary Steenburgen, Barbra Streisand and Elizabeth Taylor. The book also features recipes from former Vice President Al Gore and his wife, Tipper and Clinton's four White House Chiefs of Staff: Mack McLarty, Leon Panetta, Erskine Bowles, and John Podesta.
Several Arkansans and Arkansas restaurants are also featured. They include among others Former Senators Dale Bumpers and David Pryor; Former Governor Sid McMath; Attorney General Mike Beebe of Searcy; Little Rock City Manager Bruce Moore and his wife, Lena; Don Bingham, the administrator of the Arkansas Governor's Mansion; Doug Buford, president of the Arkansas Arts Center Board of Directors and his wife, Julie; Fayetteville businessman Graham Streett; Doe's Steakhouse in Little Rock; McClard's Barbecue and the Virginia Clinton Kelley Birthday Club both of Hot Springs; and several worldwide recipes from Heifer International.
Included also is a recipe from Sean Sonta of Sayreville, NJ, a student at Lyon College in Batesville, AR. Using over 400 sharpie pens, Sonta personally signed over 5,000 names to the beam raised during the recent Clinton Presidential Center building "Topping Out" ceremony.
The Cox Creative Center has been the site of two previous Clinton Library Preview Exhibits and will host a final exhibit: "America Presents: Books and Gifts from the Clinton Presidency" from November 24, 2003 to January 3, 2004. This final preview exhibit will also have a section on Elvis Presley. One of Presley's recipes is featured in the Clinton cookbook.
Mail and internet orders for the book will be filled beginning Friday and continuing through the next few weeks. Cookbook orders are still arriving at a much higher pace than expected, according to Foundation President Skip Rutherford.
"We based our initial projections on the recommendation of our direct mail specialists," Rutherford said. "They usually are right on target, but in this case, the response has been much greater than planned, and it is continuing. We have not even begun retail sales yet."
The cookbooks can be ordered at www.clintonpresidentialcenter.com/cookbook.html. The Clinton Foundation plans to sell the books later this year at book stores and other outlets. Representatives from several foreign countries have also inquired about obtaining publishing rights.

It is sad when a former President has to raise funds by publishing a cookbook. Fortunately, everyone has been waiting with baited breath for the famous grilled peanut butter and banana sandwich recipe and the monstrous chicken thigh recipe beloved by Hilliary. A delightful addition is Bono's favorite recipe of fish and chips with caviar.
With the proceeds the Clinton Library being built in Little Rock can now add the Hustler Collection to the stacks as well as the Beria archives.
