"Name That Tune" - Washington Times Contest, Match A Song To The Democrat Candidate

Posted on 09/15/2003 3:16:58 AM PDT by Doctor Raoul

Name that tune

When not collectively ganging up on President Bush, Democratic presidential hopefuls individually are coming up with some unusual campaign gimmicks to stand out from the rest of the crowd.

Take Sen. Bob Graham of Florida, who is announcing the availability of a signed limited edition die-cast replica of the Craftsman Truck Series No. 50 "Bob Graham for President" Ford F-150 truck driven by racing phenomenon Jon Wood.

One can play with the nifty red and white toy trucks for an $80 campaign contribution. The die cast is signed by Mr. Wood, who drove the F-150 to victory in its first race at the O'Reilly Auto Parts 250 at Kansas Speedway in July. It was the first vehicle in a major NASCAR series to be sponsored by a presidential candidate.

Meanwhile, the presidential campaign of Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut is telling Americans: "From singing 'My Way' on the Tonight Show to the Gore/Lieberman campaign song 'Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow,' Joe has always loved music.

Here's your chance to tell us what songs inspire you and remind you of Joe. What songs would get you excited for Joe at campaign events and rallies?"

Boy, tough question. Which means it's time for yet another Inside the Beltway reader survey, when our readers tell us which songs remind them of Joe.

Heck, let's not stop with Mr. Lieberman. Send us the titles of songs that remind you of any of the other presidential hopefuls, President Bush included. After all, we don't play favorites in this column.

Each submission, sent by slow mail or to the e-mail address below, should include the title of the song and its artist, along with your name and hometown. In the coming days we'll publish as many campaign theme songs as space will allow.

John Kerry - "You're so Vain" by Carly Simon
Howard Dean - "Angry Young Man" by Billy Joel
Joe Lieberman - "It's Too Late" - Carole King
Al Sharpton - "You Talk too Much" - Run DMC
Dick Gephardt - "World Leader Pretend" - REM
Dennis Kucinich - "Creep" - Radiohead
Hillary Clinton - "Witchy Woman" - Eagles
Carole Mosely Braun - "Baby Please Don't Go" - Van Morrison
Bob Graham - "Barely Breathing" - Duncan Sheik

and of course.. George W. Bush - "Holding Out for a Hero" by Bonnie Tyler

I had to post the lyrics to "Angry Young Man", my Dean theme song... which also applies well to any of the dumb dems...

There's a place in the world for the angry young man
With his working class ties and his radical plans
He refuses to bend, he refuses to crawl,
He's always at home with his back to the wall.
And he's proud of his scars and the battles he's lost,
And he struggles and bleeds as he hangs on the cross
And he likes to be knowns as the angry young man.

Give a moment or two to the angry young man,
With his foot in his mouth and his heart in his hand.
He's been stabbed in the back, he's been misunderstood,
It's a comfort to know his intentions are good.
And he sits in a room with a lock on the door,
With his maps and his medals laid out on the floor
And he likes to be known as the angry young man.

I believe I've passed the age of consciousness and righteous rage
I found that just surviving was a noble fight.
I once believed in causes too,
I had my pointless point of view,
And life went on no matter who was wrong or right.

And there's always a place for the angry young man,
With his fist in the air and his head in the sand.
And he's never been able to learn from mistakes,
So he can't understand why his heart always breaks.
But his honor is pure and his courage as well,
And he's fair and he's true and he's boring as hell
And he'll go to the grave as an angry old man.

Too all 9 of them. The Eagles Get over it.
I turn on the tube and what do I see
A whole lotta people cryin' Don't blame me
They point their crooked little fingers ar everybody else
Spend all their time feelin' sorry for themselves
Victim of this, victim of that
Your momma's too thin; your daddy's too fat

Get over it
Get over it
All this whinin' and cryin' and pitchin' a fit
Get over it, get over it

You say you haven't been the same since you had your little crash
But you might feel better if I gave you some cash
The more I think about it, Old Billy was right
Let's kill all the lawyers, kill 'em tonight
You don't want to work, you want to live like a king
But the big, bad world doesn't owe you a thing

Get over it
Get over it
If you don't want to play, then you might as well split
Get over it, Get over it

It's like going to confession every time I hear you speak
You're makin' the most of your losin' streak
Some call it sick, but I call it weak

You drag it around like a ball and chain
You wallow in the guilt; you wallow in the pain
You wave it like a flag, you wear it like a crown
Got your mind in the gutter, bringin' everybody down
Complain about the present and blame it on the past
I'd like to find your inner child and kick its little ass

Get over it
Get over it
All this bitchin' and moanin' and pitchin' a fit
Get over it, get over it

Get over it
Get over it
It's gotta stop sometime, so why don't you quit
Get over it, get over it

Crazy, but that's how it goes
Millions of people living as foes
Maybe it's not to late
To learn how to love
And forget how to hate

Mental wounds not healing
Life's a bitter shame
I'm going off the rails on a crazy train
I'm going off the rails on a crazy train

I've listened to preachers
I've listened to fools
I've watched all the dropouts
Who make their own rules
One person conditioned to rule and control
The media sells it and you have the role

Mental wounds still screaming
Driving me insane
I'm going off the rails on a crazy train
I'm going off the rails on a crazy train

I know that things are going wrong for me
You gotta listen to my words
Yeh-h

Heirs of a cold war
That's what we've become
Inheriting troubles I'm mentally numb
Crazy, I just cannot bear
I'm living with something that just isn't fair

Mental wounds not healing
Who and what's to blame
I'm going off the rails on a crazy train
I'm going off the rails on a crazy train

Ozzy rules!
I don't want to think of that idiot Dean when I hear this song though lol

Howard Dean - "Creep" by Radiohead
Sample: "But I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo.
What the hell am I doing here?
I don't belong here."

John Edwards - "I'm Too Sexy" by Right Said Fred
Sample: "I'm too sexy for your party, too sexy for your party."

John Kerry AND Dick Gephardt - "Loser" by Beck
Sample: "I'm a loser, baby -- so why don't you kill me?"

Shrillary (and Bill) - "Feelings" by The Offspring
Sample: Feelings
For all my life I'll feel it
I wish I'd never met you
You'll make me sick again

Al Sharpton AND Carol Moseley Braun - "Sweatin' Bullets by Brand Nubian
Sample: "A fight, a fight, a nigger and a white, if the nigger don't win then we all jump in. . . . smoking all America's white boys."

Dennis Kucinich - "Weird" by Hanson
Sample: Isn't it strange how we all get a little bit weird sometimes.
Sitting on the side waiting for a sign, hoping that my luck will change.
Reaching for a hand that can understand, someone who feels the same.
When you live in a cookie cutter world being different is a sin.
So you don't stand out. And you don't fit in. Weird.
Strange, how we all get a little bit...
Strange, 'cause we're all just a little bit weird sometimes.

Lieberman - "Shapeshifter" by Nasum
Sample: "On your way to popularity, you will bend the truth
Every second word a falsity, to be cool, to be right

Liar! - You're shifting shape to be a friend!
But you will always be a liar!
You're shifting shape to be a friend!
But you're a f***ing failure!

You're a shapeshifter and you're a lie

I spit in your face, wipe off your smile
- show the world who you are
You two-faced bastard, don't f***ing deny
- that you're a shapeshifter."

Another Dylan...It's All Over Now, Baby Blue - John Edwards.

You must leave now, take what you need you think will last...Leave your stepping stones behind you, something calls for you, forget the dead you've left, they will not follow you...Strike another match, go start anew, and it's all over now Baby Blue.
