A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Thanks, Mixer!
1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar. 2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up. 3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit. 4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it. 5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me a FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer

Eyeing a major hurricane 9/14/2003 7:14 P.M. John Desjardins, Senior Meteorologist, The Weather Channel
Hurricane Isabel is packing sustained winds over 155 mph, keeping it on the threshold of a category 4/5 storm on the Saffir-Simpson scale.
Whether Isabel is a strong category four or category five hurricane is irrelevant... the impacts of such a strong storm will be tremendous.
Where Isabel will have an impact is the big question. It is still too early to pinpoint a location of landfall, but Isabel will likely have a significant impact on the East Coast by the middle of the week.
While the hurricane is expected to weaken somewhat by Wednesday/Thursday, there is a good chance it will be a major hurricane with winds over 110 mph at landfall.
Residents form the Carolinas to Long Island should already be making preparations for the potential impacts from Isabel.
These preparations would include knowing the location of evacuation routes and local shelters, and stocking up on batteries, food, and potable water in the event of power outages.

Hi Maggie. You be safe now Sistah, ya heah? I'm saying prayers big time for this thing to turn north.....way north, as in NE. If it comes in at N.C. the rain will hit WV just about the time we are holding our picnic and campout.

The Spirit must have been moving all over this morning. My service was especially blessed this morning also. I used the lesson of the potter's wheel and talked about how God doesn't throw away the messed up clay, He just reshapes it into something useful. One young man came and rededicated his life to Christ and joined the church. Everyone welcomed him as our singer sung "He Doesn't Throw the Clay Away." Very meaningful service. Thank God for His unspeakable blessings.

Meg, I must have churned a thousand pounds of butter in my time, not to mention the cows I've milked, chickens raised, etc. (I can't believe that LadyX had a goat named after me)

Sorry for the delay in returning.
Received word my husband's oldest brother, 83, passed away in Florida, and a sister there has terminal cancer.
MEG, we had help the first two years living in the country, and he maintained a four-acre garden for us. The best thing was wonderful watermelons we cooled in the pond.
Webb loved to fish in the canals, taking a bamboo cane pole with string and a fishhook, and always caught big-mouthed bass, up to 12 pounds in weight!
We had rods and reels and caught very little, but when I went with him and used a cane pole and minnows for bait, I'd get them, too!
Biggest one I caught was 7 pounds, and good eating...
By the way, we had some baby ducks hatch on V-J Day, yellow, and every one of them had a black V on their foreheads!
(is this Women Only Night?!!)

What a wiz of a bicycle, deadhead! and a storm too... Popcorn and generators a must, and we will be sending safe thoughts your way eastcoasters. I went through an earthquake on FR once. I recall forgetting to get under my metal computer table because I was holding tight onto two monitors... LOL Luckily, there was no real danger though it was a big one. Best of all, my power didn't go out and I was able to post about the quake IMMEDIATELY! FR gets news before the newscasts. (FR ROCKS) We had so many earthquakes in Taiwan that I didn't really take them seriously anymore, but promise to do better next time ;) Take care out there everyone!

Thank you for the condolences.
It was not unexpected, and his wife died about eight years ago. Al was the oldest child, and Bernie the youngest, with a 16-year age difference.
Al was a pilot in the USAAC in WWII, stationed at the Panama Canal - Jack fought with Patton in North Africa against Rommel and in Italy - Norman joined the Navy at 17 and saw action in all the major Pacific battles. Bernie was in Korea and Southeast Asia.

Dear Nan, how uplifting! That must have been so fullfillig for you! I often feel the sermen is *just for me* it hits home so closely. A couple nights ago I was really going through a continuing worry about a certain subject. I took my Bible and told God I needed to have answers... When I opened it up - it was EXACTLY to a page where that subject was discussed. Hmmm and another time I heard a local radio host quote a passage. (Whenever I hear or read a quote on FR, I like to look it up) so I opened my bible, and IT WAS THE EXACT PAGE! ooooh! Our God is an AWESOME God! :)

Thank you, Libertina. The age difference didn't allow real closeness, and they lived in different states most years of their lives.
We had military years - retailing years - and medical field ones, so seldom saw them in the past 25.
The last time was five years ago when his family had a reunion in Florida, and we went for that.

I attended services in a friend's church where we had to approach to present ourselves to the alter and pass the blessing back. It was a touching service.
Glad you had an inspiring day today.

Oh, I'll miss you. Give Bernie a hug for me and tell him I will say a special prayer for him and for his brother tonight. God bless you sweet Sistah, and yes, that mail had better turn up tomorrow. Snail mail is a good name for it. Nighty night.

That does sound like a NICE invite! If we do take a trip south, I may take you up on that offer. We wanted to go south this year; but, my kids don't do well in the car for long trips. So the trip is on deck.

I can do that! It is actually easy to make real butter. I have been making it on and off since we did the Pioneer Days at our book club.
Your wish for real butter will be fulfilled if/when able to visit.
