Washington -- The Senate took up a resolution Thursday to veto new Federal Communications Commission rules that would ease restrictions on media ownership, spurred on by what activists claim is the largest public outcry in the FCC's 69-year history.

A bipartisan group of senators is trying to invoke the rarely used vehicle of a legislative veto to order the FCC to reconsider its 3-2 June vote to allow companies to own more TV and radio stations and to end its 28-year-old cross-ownership ban on companies owning a newspaper and TV station in the same market.

"The FCC's opponents have formed an unusual coalition of groups ranging from the National Organization for Women to the National Rifle Association. They have bombarded the FCC with hundreds of thousands of letters and e-mails."

Please let your senators hear from you! Now!

The FCC is in the right here ... these rules are Socialistic meddling based on the flawed Leftist assumption that you need to regulate speech to make it 'fair'.

Inevitably Govt meddling only favors the party of meddlers (aka socialists). It's why NPR/PBS/BBC are all pro-socialist; it's inevitable.

Look at radio: With the so-called 'fairness' doctrine in place, 'controversial' radio like Rush Limbaugh was suppressed. Once the fairness doctrine was repealed, Rush and talk radio blossomed, and our FREEDOMS WERE GREATER.

The enemies of the FCC are alas the enemies of freedom here. Big Media is not our friend for sure, but in a free market you can always turn it off or go someplace else. Freedom here will benefit conservatives.

Legislative vetos are UNCONSTITUTIONAL and have been ruled accordingly (see INS v. Chadha). If the senate does this we should be able to strike it down in the courts.

They want our media more stiffly regulated in order to control our ability to gather information for ourselves. So we can be more like China, Iraq, Saudi and Iran.

They can't shut the conservatives UP, so they're gonna shut us DOWN.

PLEASE, VETO the congressional "veto" Mr. President!!

Ah yes...early '80's right? SCOTUS struck legislative veto down as unconstitutional.

Legislative vetos are UNCONSTITUTIONAL and have been ruled accordingly (see INS v. Chadha).

Actually, if executive departments are going to have any ability to make rules that have the force of law, 50.0% of either body of Congress should suffice to prevent such rules from taking effect. Otherwise, the net effect is the creation of laws which do not have the approval of Congress.

I'm borrowing liberally from Capitalism2003 with his commenRush and Hannity were both plugging this site today, urging their listeners to visit and help them out.

The legislation coming up this month that will reverse the recent FCC decision ALSO CONTAINS THE FAIRNESS DOCTRINE!!!!!!!

The dems are hiding it deep within the bill, and many Republicans, either not knowing, or not caring...PLAN TO SIGN IT!! In their desire to reverse the FCC ruling, they will ALSO be bringing back the fairness doctrine...which will be the DEATHBLOW to conservative talk radio.

The democrats have been drooling over the prospect of this happening for years. If the lefties and RINOs in congress have their way, it looks like we will have a MANDATORY six hours of Al Franken/Alan Colmes/Elanor Clift, etc etc to balance out the Rush and Hannity shows. Democrats can't compete so they must force their viewpoint on an audience that doesn't want to hear it! Talk radio is the ONLY news outlet not controlled by the liberal elites, and if they have their way, we will be losing radio too. .

THIS IS IMPORTANT!

http://www.stopmediaregulation.com

If we fail, there will be a MANDATORY one-hour time slot of liberal radio to counter every hour of conservative talk on the air. 3 hours of liberal radio to balance Hannity...a MANDATORY 3 hours of liberal radio to balance Rush...Virtually every other conservative show will be required to have a balancing show afterwards, OR a liberal viewpoint 50% of the time. Imagine!! Unless you want to hear Alan Colmes/Al Franken/Elanor Clift/Nancy Skinner during the time slots of your favorite shows, you MUST visit this site and let your voice be heard.

It literally takes less than 30 seconds to get the job done. Please take the time out to do this, and pass it along to your friends/family/co-workers.

Link to e-mail your congressmen. This is the easiest e-mail link I've ever used to e-mail Congress - simply enter your zip and follow along.

This is the link that is on rush's web site. More information can be found at www.rushlimbaugh.com. You know how rarely he asks anyone to take activist sort of action.

Can you point me to proof that this is so? I've heard and read commentary both ways.
I don't want Congress to reverse the FCC decision, anyway.

Rush has three links (at least) to this. You know how rarely he asks us to take activist action. He's asking now.

Moveon.org, the activist site started by Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, has spurred 340,000 people to communicate with the FCC. NRA members sent in 200, 000 postcards, said Eli Pariser, Moveon.org's campaigns' director.

Moveon.org spurred 340,000 people to contact the FCC and the NRA members only sent in 200,000? Why is it that the RAT socialists can motivate people to action and the Conservatives/Patriots can't? Apathy in America is the greatest threat to our Freedom. People better wake up before we're living on the other side of Freedom!!

There are many times when I think Rush doesn't know what he's talking about. I'd rather verify first.
