Marking the second anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, the Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations has released a poll that, among other things, reflects American Muslim political views.
Suffice it to say the majority aren't in George W. Bush's camp.
Only 2 percent said they would vote for President Bush. One in 10 Muslim respondents say they support the president's Iraq policy.
Asked which 2004 presidential candidate would get their vote, American Muslims (a large majority of whom vote in presidential elections) from 41 states favor former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean (26 percent), followed by Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich of Ohio (11 percent), Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts (7 percent) and former Sen. Carol Moseley Braun of Illinois (6 percent).
When asked to name the political party that best represents the interests of the American Muslim community, far more respondents named the Democratic Party (27 percent) and Green Party (25 percent) than the Republican Party (3 percent).
As for the television news outlet that most fairly provides coverage of Islam and Muslims, taxpayer-supported PBS topped the list. The Fox News Channel exhibits the most biased coverage, according to those polled.

I'm sure Dean will be proud to have the Muslim vote. Enough to turn the stomach of any intelligent voter.

I'm sure Dean will be proud to have the Muslim vote. He appears to be courting it, by saying the US should not take sides in the ME, the "settlements" should be abandoned, and Hamas terrorists are "soldiers in a war." Wonder how his Jewish wife feels about that last gem.

"You are either with us, or you are with the terrorists."
I guess Dean made his choice.

It makes me incredibly sad when people can be completely void of logic.
I just don't understand how they can feel that way when we're liberating their foreign brethren.

This is the Democratic constituency. Illegal aliens and terrorist-support groups.

He DOES seem to be courting it. That won't play well with voters who are savy enough to pick up on it (which is to say - very few).

Dean's gaffes on this matter are making press. The Democrats are nervous about it. Pelosi and Lieberman both chided him this week. It's the first Dean mishap the press cannot ignore. The Democrats can't afford to be seen as anti-Israel. This will move some Jews to the GOP/Bush. :)

I just don't understand how they can feel that way when we're liberating their foreign brethren.Islam does not value freedom - its sole focus is the destruction of Israel. I don't believe it when spokepeople of the Muslim population claim they want "peace." It's a lie they repeat because they are fully aware that if the myth is not perpetuated, they may lose support even among the liberal Dems who kiss their arses.

Dean will have all the Islamists and Muslims voting for him.

Near as many can tell, CAIR is an arm of some terrorist organizations. A CAIR/Dean alliance is a good fit.

It's only natural that the Muslims would vote Dimocrat. Both groups share the agenda of destroying America.

One in 10 Muslim respondents say they support the president's Iraq policy. These are probably Iraqi exiles that fled Saddam.

CAIR is funded by our good friends the Saudis. To the best of my knowledge they have never been DIRECTLY linked to any terrorist group.
Of course (as always) I could be wrong.

This is from their web-site regarding the poll:
Other poll results:
34 percent of respondents were of South Asian heritage; 23 percent from the Arabic-speaking world
83 percent are registered to vote; 63 percent voted in 2000
34 percent attended a mosque at least once a week; 37 percent do so more frequently
70 percent rated CAIRs performance as 8 or higher on a scale from 1 to 10; 10 being excellent.
This poll is statistically invalid, it is not a valid sampling! As if we didn't know anyway.

Sheik: Moderate U.S. Muslims have become 'the silent majority'
By Diane Katz / The Detroit News
In a speech to the U.S. State Department more than two years ago, Sheik Muhammad Hisham Kabbani warned that Islamic extremists posed a security threat to America. Six of the leading Arab-American groups denounced him at the time. Since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, Sheik Kabbani, who heads the Fenton-based Islamic Supreme Council of America, has urged American Muslims to stand firm against Islamic extremism. The following are edited excerpts from an interview with Detroit News editorial writer Diane Katz:

So the American Muslims are going to "stand firm against Islamic extremism" by voting Dimocrat? I'm NOT buying it!
To: Destructor
So you are saying that most/all American Muslims think alike? Based on a poll taken over a year before the election?
Let's bear in mind that the President got a lot of votes from Muslims in the 2000 election.
You will also recall the sight of Muslims in the Detroit area celebrating the fall of sadam by dancing in the street.
