The Missouri Senate has JUST NOW OVERRIDDEN GOV. BOB HOLDEN'S VETO OF LICENSE-TO-CARRY, by the narrow margin of 23 to 11!
23 votes were required to override, and we barely made it -- but we made it.
We were helped out in key swing votes by Senator Jon Dolan, who flew in from military duty in Cuba for this and the abortion override vote, and also by Senator Michael Gibbons, who voted against the original bill. No one knew until today how Senator Gibbons would cast his vote.
These are certainly not the only Senators who deserve to be thanked. Senator Harold Caskey, Democrat Senator from District 31, has swum against the tide of many of his colleagues to provide tremendous, courageous leadership in this issue. Senators Peter Kinder and Sarah Steelman also come to mind as prominent supporters. And those who passed the override in the House deserve to be thanked as well, because without them we would never have reached this point.

mine is 5.00(at least the last one was) senior citizen---now, let us get reciprocity from all the carry states, so we can be protected and help protect their citizens when we travel the country--hell with ca, ny and the eastern garbage (although 7 of my kids live in nj)--what say ye?

A lot of our (not me personally, but the group that I belong to) effort was exerted to get agreements with states where a lot of PA residents go. Some initiated agreements with us. I would guess that Delaware doesn't rank that high with us on this end of the state because it wouldn't have that much of a practical effect.
States with CCW reciprocity agreements with PA
Florida / Kentucky / Wyoming
Georgia / Michigan / N.Carolina
States that recognize Pennsylvania Concealed Carry Licenses
Alaska / Idaho / Indiana
Montana / Oklahoma / Utah

I believe there was a movie years ago ("Escape from New York?)---with Kurt Russell?---they had the place walled in because of the crime, etc.---virtual prison that the president's plane crashed in---your idea has merit, you see, since the 'liberal' movie folk used it earlier

Thanks. I looked but couldn't find anything yet.

I just got a terrible nauseous feeling after reading that story. Sadly, it does not suprise me at all.

Wow! Congrats to all Missouri freepers! How many states is that this year? CO and MN + MO = at least three.
It's four or five, depending upon how you count.
New Mexico passed shall-issue again, this year, after having passed shall-issue in 2001 and having it tossed out by their Supreme Court.
Colorado and Minnesota both passed shall-issue.
Alaska had shall-issue, but passed Vermont-Carry this year.
And, of course, Missouri.
Nebraska made a serious try, and it died.
Wisconsin is debating it this week - it's certain to pass, but uncertain whether it could survive a possible veto.
And Ohio hasn't given up for the year. Both House and Senate have passed it, but in different forms.

Yes it does-as does any CCW law. Even in Vermont, the owner of private property/business is free to post NO GUNS if he/she so chooses. Such is the nature of private property rights. However, in Mo, violation of such a sign (if you're indiscreet enough to get caught) is simple tresspass, though if you make a habit of it I believe they can yank your permit for a period of time.

It's a done deal! The house voted yesterday...

Can't be done-Missouri has state pre-emption. No municipality can enact stricter gun control laws than the state. If St. Louis or K.C. is foolish enough to try it on, they'll find themselves spending money to defend themselves in a court case they can't possibly win.

Congratulations! LOL But probably no firing into the air like in Afghanistan to celebrate... ;)

Speaking of names, yours reminds me of one of the Great Blue Herons that hangs at one of my fishing holes. He has gotten so used to the people that he allowed me to walk within about 3 feet of him on my way down the jetty. I guess the 5 foot tall(yes, that tall!) bird also knows that dagger of a beak is a pretty good weapon if needed.

It's a shame we have to rent our RKBA from the goobermint also............but it's the best thang to build facts and stats. Alaska and Vermont have honored the Constitution........."most" of the rest use the RKBA as a source of revenue.
Stay safe !

Municipalities such as St. Louis and Kansas City will try to pass ordinances that restrict the measure. This is why you need a pre-emption bill such as we have here in Oregon. It applies to ALL legislation, not just firearms - local municipalities can't enact any regulations *more* restrictive than any applicable State regulations.
I posted another thread about this recently... just this week we've had the Department of Fish & Wildlife and one of the local school districts forced to rescind their anti-gun regulations because of the pre-emption law.
And as a political expedient, you can get Lieberals to support a pre-emption law, to protect (For instance) their "Freedom" to site adult bookstores next to schools. (I know this will infuriate some people, but, you'll just have to learn to reason in the abstract: the sword of government cuts both ways...)

This is good, but as a Missourian, I can't say our constitutional rights have been upheld. We still have to jump through a lot of hoops to have our "right" become legal.
