The Missouri Senate has JUST NOW OVERRIDDEN GOV. BOB HOLDEN'S VETO OF LICENSE-TO-CARRY, by the narrow margin of 23 to 11!
23 votes were required to override, and we barely made it -- but we made it.
We were helped out in key swing votes by Senator Jon Dolan, who flew in from military duty in Cuba for this and the abortion override vote, and also by Senator Michael Gibbons, who voted against the original bill. No one knew until today how Senator Gibbons would cast his vote.
These are certainly not the only Senators who deserve to be thanked. Senator Harold Caskey, Democrat Senator from District 31, has swum against the tide of many of his colleagues to provide tremendous, courageous leadership in this issue. Senators Peter Kinder and Sarah Steelman also come to mind as prominent supporters. And those who passed the override in the House deserve to be thanked as well, because without them we would never have reached this point.

"Delaware is the tough nut to crack." I don't know, but PA is not that far away. You'll be welcome here. Just don't move into the Philadelphia area.

Too late. I live in Delaware County, right on the front lines.
I meant that DE was tough to crack regarding reciprocity. It sure would make life easier for those here who work there.

Hopefully IL can get it together. Unfortunately, there is not a single group leading the charge in Illinois. ConcealCarry.org is going out of business in a few days, and its founder has decided that he has had enough. ISRA (Illinois State Rifle Association) has done exactly ZERO on this issue. The NRA has provided a bill, but there is only one sponsor in the senate and house. I called the senator's office -- his staff told me that the bill is dead in committee and that no one is pushing the bill.
The biggest obstacle to right-to-carry in Illinois is the ISRA. ISRA is simply a target shooting club run exclusively by Richard Pearson, and refuses to do anything pro-active in Illinois. The only way a right-to-carry law will be passed in Illinois is if a new organization springs up to carry the torch.
People in Missouri should remember that carrying in Illinois is a FELONY (courtesy of our former "Republican" Governor, George Ryan).

Far better to issue an Executive Order with the force of law that gives all states total reciprocity of CCW permits under both the "Full Faith and Credit AND the Equal Protection" clauses of the Constitution. That's a good idea, even if eventually gets overturned by the Supreme Court. I wonder why the NRA hasn't purhsed that?

Delaware recently passed a reciprocity law. Suprisingly, both houses of the Delaware legislature are controlled by the democrats, and the governer is a democrat. Delaware should soon be in a peculiar situation where it is easier for non-residents than residents to carry.

I brought this up on a Wisconsin thread yesterday. Has anyone tracked the political consequences of vetoing CCW legislation in the various states? Ann Richards vetoed Texas' CCW bill and was out the next election. What has happened to the other governors dumb enough to veto CCW?

Now if they would only co-sign a tax reciprocity agreement with PA, but then I think the world would end...
To: Mini-14
Yeah thanks a whole bunch for pointing out here in Ohio we have no CCW thanks to a Lib REP Govenor. But with MO maybe Taft will be overridden.
To: Mini-14
I hate to tell you this but what's the point?
If the dems are in charge of Illinois, they will never pass a CCW law or reverse any of the other gun contol laws. It's all about votes.
It would be the same as dumping a lot of money into a Republican Mayoral candidate in Chicago.
It's like playing the card game "War" when you can choose which card to play. If you're going to lose, you might as well throw down a duece.

Isn't it a shame that a state like Wisconsin which has a history and reputation of freedom, still refuses to allow it's citizens to carry concealed weapons.
I guess we can't be trusted.
But our illustrious govenor can look the other way when Demoncraps buy votes with quarters and cigarettes.

Why not just issue an executive order clarifying the legal definition of "Militia" and later getting a federal concealed carry laws on the books. The second amendment clearly protects individual rights but the "Militia" reference is where liberals try to devine a different meaning. Clarification on this might give legal defense of laws giving concealed carry rights to this class defined as "militia".

Tell me about it. I know a cop who works in Bucks County. He tells me this story: one night there was some problem in NJ and they ask ed Philly for help. Fine, they send two cars screaming across the Tacony-Palmyra (bridge) to help out. Whatever the problem is, they get it under control, and the cops head back and finish their shift.
The next day their captain gets a call from the chief in NJ, asking for the officers' names. The captain thinks to himself, hey, great, they'll get a commendation or something. He asks what they have in mind, and is horrified to hear that they want to *charge* the two cops with carrying their guns into NJ. He tells the chief on the other line that he doesn't know who they are and even if he did, he sure as heck wouldn't tell him. (click).
Ungreateful SOB's...I know some Chester cops and I've lost count of the times they've called Delaware state troopers for help and told them to *bring their guns*.
