Schwarzenegger brands Prop. 54backers as "right-wing crazies"
California Political News and Views | September 8, 2003 | Stephen Frank

Posted on 09/09/2003 7:07:37 AM PDT by sruleoflaw

I post this information with the following comments.

As Republicans and conservatives activists, we know that Mr. Schwarzenegger has refused to sign a no tax hike pledge, refused to take a position on California's Family Leave Act (a major job-killer), supports homosexual domestic partners (opposed by 61% of Californians), supports gay adoption, supports abortion, has said that Proposition 187 is history and that he doesn't mind illegal aliens staying here, and in an unbelievably inept statement, said he will ask the Democrat Legislature to repeal the law giving drivers licenses to illegal aliens (as if the Democrats John Burton and Herb Wesson will give him his request). There is only one way to stop drivers licenses for illegals -- the McClintock-California Republican Assembly referendum effort. AND NOW, AS THE TOPPER, Mr. Schwarzenegger has opposed Proposition 54 AND CALLED THE SUPPORTERS OF THIS MEASURE (WHICH INCLUDES THE CALIFORNIA REPUBLICAN PARTY) 'RIGHT-WING CRAZIES'.

I have one or two questions for Mr. Schwarzenegger's followers. Do you support Proposition 54? Does Proposition 54? Do you accept Arnold's name-calling toward me, you and others? Is Arnold's name-calling indicative of what he feels toward conservatives.

Mr. McClintock has offered to debate Mr. Schwarzenegger -- ONE ON ONE, MAN TO MAN. Let them debate...and then we'll choose a course of action.

29 DAYS TILL RECALL--FREE AT LAST, FREE AT LAST, LORD ALMIGHTY, FREE AT LAST

MAJOR STORY--ARNOLD CALLS SUPPORTERS OF PROP 54, TO END RACIAL PROFILING, "Right Wing Crazies".

Dear Political Activist:

Conservative elected officials, many of them, have endorsed Arnold. His reply to them? He calls them "right wing crazies". Why, because they oppose racial profiling and believe all people should be treated equally.

Arnold has come out against Prop. 54, which has been endorsed by the California Republican Party. Yet, Arnold calls supporters of the measure, including the California Republican Party, "right wing crazies." Also calling supporters of Prop. 54 (which ends racial profiling) "right wing crazies" are Cruz Bustamante and Gray Davis.

Why does Arnold have to name call? Is this how he is going to unify the Republican Party by name calling? Shame on him. He needs to apologize to everyone of his endorsers and the CRP for another example of outrageous conduct.

Here is the original of the story:

"Yesterday, a member of our staff attended an event at which Arnold Schwarzenegger was in attendance. Here is the exchange that took place:

Justin: "So I know you haven't made a decision on Prop 54--"

[I was going to go further and attempt to make our case when he cut me off right there.]

Arnold: "No, I have made a decision. I'm against it. It looks good on the surface, but when you study it you see its true intentions. It was a no-brainer, once I looked at all the reading and all the materials. I do a lot of work with after school programs, a lot of these kids are minorities, and we need to know how they're doing and bring them up to the starting line. It was a no-brainer. And if the right-wing crazies have a problem with that, so be it."

We are absolutely convinced of the fact that because Justin is black, Arnold presumed that he is one of those liberal "minorities" who wanted to hear that kind of patronizing message."

http://www.nationalreview.com/thecorner/03_09_07_corner-archive.asp#013121 ARNOLD & PROP. 54 [John J. Miller] Yesterday I named three things Arnold S. could to do to appeal to conservatives. I neglected to mention a fourth: Endorse Proposition 54, Ward Connerly's latest initiative, which would ban the state from collecting information about the race and ethnicity of its citizens. For a couple of weeks, AS has said he's studying Prop. 54 and would announce his decision before Election Day. Last night, however, Connerly emailed to say AS has come out against Prop. 54. The candidate also added this little flourish: "And if the right-wing crazies have a problem with that, so be it." It is becoming increasingly clear that there is no conservative case to be made for Schwartzenegger. The man has given us "right-wing crazies" almost nothing except the hope that he might win. Friends, this is the definition of a Pyrrhic victory.

Arnold should have read this before he spoke: 10 REASONS TO SUPPORT PROPOSITION 54 Prop 54 will bar the state and all local California governments from collecting racial data in the areas of public education, employment, contracting and most other government operations. Reasonable exemptions exist for medical research subjects and patients, data collection required by federal law or for federal funds, certain activities of law enforcement and the Dept. of Fair Housing and Employment. The state legislature, by a two-thirds vote and with the governor's approval, can vote to exempt any other reasonable area. This initiative builds on Proposition 209 by eliminating race classifications in those areas where preferences are outlawed.

Race has become less and less a factor in determining the fates and fortunes of Americans. For that reason, the state should get out of the racial classification business and end the invidious practice of dividing by race. Racial classifications originate in the 17th-century slavery system and should be torn down, not propped up by government sanction. Furthermore, the classifications are unscientific and arbitrary: How much black blood makes a person black? Who counts as Hispanic? To what race do multiracial people belong?

By pitting racial groups against one another, racial classifications foster more resentment and disharmony, not less. America will never get over its race problem as long as some insist on obsessively focusing on skin color as a defining characteristic. The historic Civil Rights Movement was not waged for an America where the government required every citizen to present his or her race as a prerequisite for any government transaction. It was waged for an America where the government treated all citizens equally before the law. John F. Kennedy once said, "Race has no place in American life or law".Prop 54 will lead to that world where government disregards race.

Our government serves as a model of justice and equality for all citizens. If we truly want a color-blind society to happen someday, the first, measured step towards that goal is to establish a color-blind government. As the most diverse state in the Union, California has the most to gain from ending racial classifications. Whatever group may be up today could be down tomorrow; every Californian will be better off being treated equally under the law.

With California's state budget as much as $38 billion in the hole, our state needs to save every dollar it can. A great place to start will be the elimination of the reams of paperwork used to track race data, the numberless computer programs engineered to tabulate it, and the wasted time of countless employees entering the useless data into the system. As more Americans marry across lines of race, more children of multiracial descent are born. California, as the most diverse state, has more multiracial people than any other. These people don't fit into any one box. Why should the government require them to deny their full heritage by checking a box?

As long as we are trapped in the mindset that the only way to get past race is to obsessively track and tabulate it, we will never get past it. The only way to reach a color-blind society is to actually start behaving like we have one. It will not magically come about on its own. *********************************************************************************** FROM THE POLITICAL FRONT:

Arnold has shown himself not ready for prime time in this campaign, but maybe by October 7 he will be ready. A few examples:

1. He claims that in January, as Governor, he will "rescind" SB60 allowing illegal immigrants to get drivers licenses. His staff should have told him that Governors don't rescind laws--they veto them, they create initiatives, they speak out against them, but Governors can't rescind laws.

2. He will "audit every agency of government. He will "open the books". Actually, it is the job of the Controller to audit the books, and he can at any moment, without warning. The Governor can issue an audit demand and get it.

But, what do audits determine? They find waste and corruption. An audit does not tell if a program is good or bad, or if needed. Is he saying that the money problem of the state is waste and corruption, $38 billion dollars worth? Let him tell us, before we vote, what he will cut, or at least which programs are on the table.

3. The only "debate" he is willing to participate in is where he gets the questions five days in advance. In Hollywood, that is called "a script". (stolen from Jay Leno)

***************************************************** Let us remember, the first goal is to Recall Gray Davis. This is becoming a problem. Look at this:

Davis Ouster May Not Be A Sure Thing http://www.oaklandtribune.com/Stories/0,1413,82%257E1865%257E1616811,00.html

The gubernatorial recall races hit their mud-slinging midpoint this weekend amid a surprising and perhaps decisive twist -- signs a growing number of voters miss the "good old days" of just being unhappy with Gov. Gray Davis. Front-running replacement candidates Cruz Bustamante and Arnold Schwarzenegger have swiftly fallen into such a swamp of criticism and uncertainties that Davis' ouster no longer appears inevitable, say many Democrats and independent analysts. *************************************************************** POLL FOR THE WEEK:

The Bush Administration is asking the United Nations to get involved in the Iraq situation. Do you support or oppose the UN's involvement at this time?

Please vote yes or no and send your response and reasons to: stephenfrank@sbcglobal.net

Fun Comments from a friend. If someone from Arnold's camp would like to submit a Dr. Seuss, happy to reprint it.

From Sylvia Sullivan. 8/29/03, of San Diego County:

With Apologies to Dr. Seuss

Will you for Arnold vote?

I will not for Arnold vote! Not in a boat, not by a goat

Not with the fans he boasts Not by the money he gloats

By right stand, I am No matter dire predictions I'll stand by my convictions!

Arnold will not get my vote

Not on a float, not with a dope Not on a whim, not in a gym!

Not with a goose, not on the booze I will not be loose, with the Gov. I choose!

By Tom I stand, I am He has the right plan The man we love, to be our next Gov.!

What is the actual SOURCE for this? Are we willing to accept hearsay and innuendo as fact?

Justin is the source. Don't you know Justin? Everyone knows Justin. < /sarcasm >

There has to be a reason for recall...you can't recall someone because you don't like the color of his eyes. Our financial mess is the reason for this recall. You can't argue with it.

You know....I just don't care anymore. You McClintock supporters are obviously blind to the simple facts that rule California politics.

Support McClintock. You'll get Bust-a-move. And you deserve him. And I hope you choke on him.

But when you guys have lost a SURE WIN for the SECOND TIME in less than 12 months, don't cry or whine. Just be happy in the fact that it was YOUR GUY who lost AGAIN.

To hell with putting California in play in 2004...Go ahead...Just give those 54 Electoral Votes to the rats in a WALK. And to hell with having a California Govenor who would support President Bush and the war on terrorism...Afterall, it was New York that got hit on 9-11. California is about as far away from there as you can get.

Oh, and by the way...

When McClintock loses BIG...And he will...And you all know it...It's simple math. His political career will be DEAD. And don't whine and cry about that either. Just be happy in the fact that you supported YOUR GUY!!

RGSpincich, LOOK IN THE MIDDLE. THIS POST IS ALSO SOURCED TO NATIONAL REVIEW. Article by John Miller, political editor of National Review online.

Yep. But no independent verification as to who this Justin is or where he was at when the quote was supposedly made...... {Where, when, by whom, etc}

.....
But then this came in — a few minutes ago. Schwarzenegger was questioned about Prop 54, the Ward Connerly-spearheaded measure that would make it illegal for governmental agencies to collect racial statistics on the population, with some prudent exceptions. This is the Racial Privacy Initiative.

Schwarzenegger said, "I'm against it. It looks good on the surface, but when you study it you see its true intentions. It was a no-brainer, once I looked at all the reading and all the materials. I do a lot of work with after-school programs, a lot of these kids are minorities, and we need to know how they're doing and bring them up to the starting line. It was a no-brainer. I've given up too. I never use this term, but the blind devotion is almst Hitleresque. If you read this thread, they acually use the term, LOVE when referring to McClintock. I'm suspect of any politician who puts his own ego in front of the good of the Party. And save your sanctimoneous explations...blah blah blah..."There are none so blind as those who cannot see."

Come on AS supporters, you have to stand on principles sometime.

Face it. The wing of the Republican Party that supports business and corporate interests doesn't even respect the values of social Conservatives. They just want us to vote for them anyway.

Prop 54 is nothing but an exercise in ego for the increasingly annoying Ward Connerly. But even Ward did an awful job of promoting it, so that 70% of the public believe that it will harm public health by not recording racially-germane disease info, even though it excepts that.

Exactly! That seems lost in the discussions on this site. I haven't seen this much venom since the 2000 elections on here! Coming from the same folks and some new Freepers too!

That alone would explain the bizarre behavior of Mr. Schwarzenegger; i.e., he doesn't want to BE governor (and who could blame him)."

Correctomundo!!!

Now do you see why I left the Party immediately after voting last November. I'm worn out supporting the mindless mangling of consistent conservatism at all levels... From the Whitehouse, to the local outhouse!!!

As usual, a very insightful reply on your part. I'm still waiting for the SurveyUSA.com poll...

Hitler killed less people than Mao... So would you support Hitler?

I am getting very tired of this "less evil than" argument.

Sometimes its just better give your enemies enough rope to hang themselves.

Vote McClintock and hope he wins, but if not, be ready to blame the democrats and liberals for EVERYTHING that goes wrong thereafter. Lay plans to pick up the pieces of the broken system and build it the way you want it after your enemies have utterly destroyed the state. People must be convinced that they are wrong and sometimes it takes a very hard lesson.

Support prop 54! This could cause voter problems in all the states once the illegals have valid California drivers licenses.
