Free Republic's 9-11 100 Hours of Remembrance
Free Republic | 9/6/03 | Free Republic

Posted on 09/06/2003 1:45:49 AM PDT by jriemer

It’s 4:46am September 6.

Its a little more than 100 hours from the Second Anniversary of Start the World Trade Center Attack and the subsequent Strike on the Pentagon and the Crash in Pennsylvania. 100 hours seems to be a long time; however, it is barely enough to reflect and remember all those who perished on the ground and in the air. Each one of the victims has a story, a life, that if retold would take more than 100 hours to appreciate the richness of their stay on this earth before it was snatched away.

Since 911, there has been more sacrifice. More have taken from this earth – this time not in tragedy but in a quest for justice and the expansion of freedom. They were not helpless victims but Heroes of liberation for the Afghanis and Iraqis and protectors of our domestic security.

We would hope that you would take the time and reflect on the lives of those who died on 9-11 and those who have sacrificed their all since that day in these next 100 hours. Please contribute a post of reflection, a prayer, a memorial, a picture or even just a ping to your friends to let them know that 9-11 has not been ignored this year.

Never forget…

Someone sent me this poem a few days after the attack. I saved it because it expressed similar thoughts I had that horrible day.

THE LADY

I wonder what she thought
As she stood there, strong and tall.
She couldn't turn away,
She was forced to watch it all.

Did she long to offer comfort
As her country bled?
With her arm forever frozen
High above her head.

She could not shield her eyes
She could not hide her face
She just stared across the water
Keeping Freedom's place.

The smell of smoke and terror
Somehow reduced her size
So small within the harbor
But still we recognized...

How dignified and beautiful
On a day so many died
I wonder what she thought,
And I know she must have cried.

WE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER SEPTEMBER 11....

WE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER SEPTEMBER 11....

A liberal colleague said to me, "This sentimentality is waaaay overdone. I'm going to go to a movie that day."

Salon ran an article a long time ago that listed quotations from various liberals about 9/11. It was sickening. IIRC, the quotations were given annonymously and the premise was that this is how people really feel about 9/11.

Some people said that they were turned on and had sex. Some said that it was exciting, like a video game. Some said that they were sick of all of the emotion. Then there were the complaints about the jingoism, blah, blah, blah.

Leftists are some deeply disgusting people.

Beautiful picture!

I just opened the 9/11 USO Canteen thread for 9/11/2003, looked at the first image on that thread, and didn't read further (yet). I felt compelled to suggest first that everybody take a look at the picture MoJo2001 posted on that thread. It's a touching tribute!

Fawnn, Thank you for providing a link. The credit for the opening of the Canteen Sports Corner Thread belongs to LindaSOG. She worked very hard on making that graphic for us to use. She is so talented and it's been hard to not click on the thread without being profoundly touched!!

MoJo: Thank you for the clarification. (I'm haunted by that image, and that's good.)

Prayers today for the direct victims of 9/11, for those touched by events of 9/11, and for those who, in whatever capacity, fight to preserve those freedoms we hold dear. God Bless America! NEVER FORGET!

That was the Examiner's finest moment, that BASTARDS! headline. Amazing since the (new) owners are so left-wing. It's definitely been downhill from there. Thanks for posting it!

I choked up looking at these pictures. I don't know of any event in my life that cemented so many images and feelings into my brain than 9-11.

From the look on the President Bush's face when he was told of the attack,

to Jon Scott's reation when the 2nd plane hit,

to Shephard Smith announcing FNC's decision not to show the video of people jumping,

to the Palestinian's cheering,

to the african-american lady who was covered in dust,

to the doctor who went to help people after the day turned to darkness from dust..asking the fireman for a "toot" of his oxygen mask,

to the eerie sound of the locators coming from the firemen's uniforms

to the shock on President Bush's face when the staff released the taped message at Barksdale AFB,

to me not leaving the tv for hours on end,

to the photograph of the firemen raising that flag,

to watching the President of the United States, from the Oval Office, comfort America after the worst day in American history....

These things I can never forget. I'll never forget the people who were murdered, the emergency workers who faced death to save others, the people who protected President Bush that day, FNC for outstanding coverage, and the American spirit which stood so strong in the face of mass death.
