Free Republic's 9-11 100 Hours of Remembrance
Free Republic | 9/6/03 | Free Republic

Posted on 09/06/2003 1:45:49 AM PDT by jriemer

It’s 4:46am September 6.

Its a little more than 100 hours from the Second Anniversary of Start the World Trade Center Attack and the subsequent Strike on the Pentagon and the Crash in Pennsylvania. 100 hours seems to be a long time; however, it is barely enough to reflect and remember all those who perished on the ground and in the air. Each one of the victims has a story, a life, that if retold would take more than 100 hours to appreciate the richness of their stay on this earth before it was snatched away.

Since 911, there has been more sacrifice. More have taken from this earth – this time not in tragedy but in a quest for justice and the expansion of freedom. They were not helpless victims but Heroes of liberation for the Afghanis and Iraqis and protectors of our domestic security.

We would hope that you would take the time and reflect on the lives of those who died on 9-11 and those who have sacrificed their all since that day in these next 100 hours. Please contribute a post of reflection, a prayer, a memorial, a picture or even just a ping to your friends to let them know that 9-11 has not been ignored this year.

Never forget…

No need to forgive. Thanks for the ping. We must NEVER forget.

Exp89, hope you don't mind a tear-filled ping aimed at you.

Thanks for including me. I spent a lot of time in both buildings, and in the World Financial Center. The city isn't the same without them.

I just spent the past 30 or so minutes reading down the list of WTC victims, and I realized how easy it is to view the list as just so many faceless names. Then I began running across names of people I knew.

There are eight people on that list whom I knew well, and at least a dozen more whose faces I can still remember, even though it's been nine years since I've seen them. Many of these people were a part of life, to varying degrees, for 6 1/2 years.

Had I the time, I'd write a little about some of the people I knew, so that whomever reads this post would forced to see them as I do; as human beings. Since I don't have the time, however, I'll simply say the following:

Among those I knew, was a class clown, a cheerful cherub, a bubbly city girl, a tough-as-nails pixie, a frightened child, a stoic, a principled family man and a teddy bear. Each was much more than this, but this is how I remember them.

My former employer, Marsh-Mclennan moved to the World Trade Center in 1998. I was slated to move to the 95th floor on the North Tower later that year. I moved on from Marsh-McLennan and accepted an out-of-town position in 1998 after working six years at Marsh.

Needless to say, September 11, 2001 has been especially tough on me, and this date will be forever branded in my mind. I still have moments where I can't believe my former co-workers, colleauges, people who I've worked with hours on end on various projects, are not here today.

May they rest in peace, and I will never forget!.

I worked for Cantor Fitzgerald from 11/87 to 3/94.

"Needless to say, September 11, 2001 has been especially tough on me, and this date will be forever branded in my mind..."

As will the faces of my former co-workers, their personalities and a thousand memories spanning the 6+ years that I knew them.

Joseph P. Spor, 35, Yorktown Heights, N.Y., USA firefighter, New York Fire Department Confirmed dead, World Trade Center, at/in building

Joe was my buddy; he and I lifted wieghts together for close to ten years. Ironically, before he became a firefighter he worked on Wall Street. Everytime I turn on the television and see a rememberance of 9/11, some how, some way Joe's picture shows up on the tube (to which I then jump out of my chair and yell, "There's my buddy Joe!").

I'm still angered by what happened and as much as I love and support our President I don't think he's inflicted enough punishment against these bastards!

These drawings were done by the Harriet Tubman Learning Center, P.S. 154, in New York City. FEMA and psychology experts encourage children to draw pictures as a way to help them deal with trauma. These pictures reflect the attacks on the World Trade Center from the children's point of view. Teachers who participated in this project include Dawn Brooks-DeCosta, Alfreda Gatling and Alma Ryan. If you wish to write to the school, its address is: 250 W. 127th Street; New York City, NY, 10027.
