Per Fox News, Estrada has withdrawn his nomination.

I want to shout -- LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE! Going into 2004, the fact that the DemocRATs defied the will of the majority in the Senate on judicial nominations can be used against those same DemocRATs.

And just WHO is going to use it against them? The media? Or maybe the Republicans themselves will drop the white glove routine and the "new tone" and actually bring it up themselves?

All you do is critize. Bet you don't even vote Republican -- that seems to be the mantra on here recently -- a host of crticism is coming from folks that back in 2000 had no intention of supporting Pres Bush much less voting for him but now they want to tell the rest of us lifelong Republicans what we should do so we can lose elections!

The half empty glass or less than half folks can take it and shove it for all I care -- if they spent half as much time working for positive change instead of sitting behind a keyboard criticizing all the time, this Country would be a better place.

I am not surprised by this. He made noises he was going to if it wasn't resolved soon.

It's only fair to Mr. Estrada to not permit him to twist in the wind like that. I think he made the right decision for himself.

It remains a shame that the DC Circuit is still short-staffed. I hope someone -- perhaps Maureen Mahoney -- is quickly nominated for the vacancy.

Those "weak" conservatives most likely are part of the millions of conservatives that stayed home and didn't vote in 2000!

They want to know why the Republican Party is reaching out to bring in new people -- all they have to do is look in the mirror. Their threatening to sit out elections is what is driving the Republicans to look elsewhere. You can only threaten for so long before people get totally fed up....

Can't say it better myself. Like it or not, we have to work with and get control of the Republican Party. With the pace of politics now, and the advanced state of decline the nation's in, we can't afford to wait around 8 years for a party that is to our liking to rise up and rival the 'Rats like disaffected Whigs did in the 1850s.

...It is a travesty, but those are the rules of the Senate and I am not sure that nuking those rules for one nomination would be in the best interest of the Senate.

Even the Hispanic community did not get behind Estrada like I thought they would....

I hate to quibble, but it's more than one nomination. With Estrada now officially gone, the DemonRATs will do this to everyone they perceive as a threat from. The fact that this happened first to a conservative "minority" makes the blow even more painful and permanent. It truly signifies that, as long as there are not 60 conservatives in the Senate, no conservative jurist can ever hope to be anything more than a district judge.

I agree - the Democrats have won. They will push even harder for the pro-life judge. This puts every single conservative judge in jeopardy. No one will remember Miguel Estrada this time next year.

Look for common ground, not divisive ground. Rather than dismiss the person making the threat, it's better, IMO, to assess the substance of their complaint.

The common ground is that we all have the same compliant. It's the lack of solidarity/cohesion (neos, paleos, RINOs, metas, mesos, broken glass, etc.) and lack of resolve and persistence that pulls us apart.

That's their advantage. They can get away with this because they have the media on their side, and most folks still get their news from the big three. We've made inroads, but we still have a ways to go.

The next Democrat that gets in ought to see the same thing happen to his judges, though. As far as I am concerned, they need to receive this treatment.

The VAST majority of Republicans (over 90%) have continued to support President Bush. We do NOT feel 'betrayed' and 'abandoned' because we are not children......we are thinking adults.

We have a President who has made some decisions we don't like, but we are mature enough to understand the necessity of it in some cases, and in others that we still question, to see the BIG picture and like what we see overall.

And, IMO, anyone who doesn't see the difference between how George W. Bush has governed, and ANY democrat, is at least half blinded by ideology......or just plain stupid.
