Sorry for the vanity, but lately I've been getting put on ping lists that I never asked to be on. I was wondering if this has happened to any other FReepers. Anybody else having this problem?

You've been put on my 'You don't know you are on my ping list' Ping List...
If you want on or off my ping list, forget it, because you don't know about it...

As in
permanently added to a ping list, or simply pinged by a Freeper acquaintance who thought you would be interested in a certain post, and also pinged a regular ping list he/she maintains at the same time?
The latter happens relatively often, and it confuses people into thinking they've actually been added to a ping list when it's really just a one-time thing. The former, however, ought not happen at all, unless you've specifically requested to be added.
(I will take this opportunity to add my usual complaint that ping lists would be largely unnecessary if we could have bump lists back.)

Why was I pinged to this particular thread?

It happens. Someone sees that you are interested (if only momentarily) in something that they really care about. They put together a ping list.
They're not being mean, they like you.
Just FReepmail them and politely ask them to take you off the list. Works every time.

you could try the POLITICALLY INCORRECT method of simply replying to the ping-list sender yourself and simply politely asking to be removed instead of complaining to the PC Police first - ya think?
You have been indoctrinated fully by the left-wing to rely on mama-gubmint instead of doing things yourself.
I AM sorry for you.

Why was I pinged to this particular thread? You want to be added to the 'Ping' ping list?
To: 4mycountry
Yes, but in my experience people who put you on ping lists without asking get mad and take you off when you don't respond.
To: 4mycountry
I've never spent a lot of time thinking about it.
You?

Yes, but it is hardly without my knowledge. Every time I log in I see them, so I know they are there. I find it iritating. Problem is, I even feel somewhat guilty in telling those folks to take me off the list.
Ping lists, without personal acquiescence, are an abomination.

Or maybe we need a "Bad Vanity" ping list. Anybody want to be added to that?
To: 4mycountry
All I do is request to be removed by freepmail.

I think we also may need an "I want to whine" ping list.
