Roy Moore: In God I Trust

Why I'm standing up for the Ten Commandments in Alabama.

MONTGOMERY, Ala.--The battle over the Ten Commandments monument I brought into Alabama's Supreme Court is not about a monument and not about politics. (The battle is not even about religion, a term defined by our Founders as "the duty we owe to our creator and the manner for discharging it.") Federal Judge Myron Thompson, who ordered the monument's removal, and I are in perfect agreement on the fact that the issue in this case is: "Can the state acknowledge God?"

How many of the Ten Commandments are our laws based upon?

How many does it take to make it historically significant?

We should discuss who had the authority in that building to put up any display, not who owns the building. You realize, of course, that public buildings contain all sorts of displays, works of art, and community announcements. Someone decides who gets to put them up.

It is funny isn't it that Judge Moore has never been challenged on the basis of lacking the authority to choose displays for the building in question? Apparently that's not an issue. If it were it would have been very simple and uncontroversial to have the monument removed.

Deflection. My question is based upon the claim that the 10 Commandments are the foundation for the laws in this country. Please answer my question. Thanks.

For those who hang around 'Latest Posts' like a bad smell, waiting to jump on a new Moore thread and dismay and undercut their fellow Freepers, solely as an agent provocateur, I have nothing but scorn and contempt.

I'd suggest bringing your self-esteem issue to your shrink.

Give them time. Soon they will take the Bible out of the courtroom, the way they are trying to remove Judge Moore from the bench.

God Bless Judge Moore!

The answer to your question is "Who cares?".

If even one thing in the Constitution is based on one thing in the Ten Commandments that's enough to make it historically noteworthy.

Neverfail to tell the libertarians that Barry Goldwater supported prayer in public school.

If you think Moore is doing this for "principle," then you're a dupe.

If he's not doing this "for principle" he's a dupe. He'd go farther if he'd join the club.

"I look upon it in horror, my friend, because until now I had always thought Luis to be a Freeper of quality. Now I realise I should have looked behind the mask a little earlier. By what right do these blokes act as fifth columnists when our fellow posters are on the front line at the courthouse?...

I have tried to view it from their perspective and I can promise you I would shut up, even if I held the same views, once I knew our team was freeping the libs on this one."

Of course real conservatives of this supposed "conservative" forum realize high-fivin' the ACLU and various other creepy subversive purveyors of America's eventual destruction exposes the moles.

The good news is these masquerading political and cultural transvestites, elitist lovers of government dictates, and closet ACLU-symps have been flushed out by this one itty-bitty issue.

Conservative Freepers should now be on notice of -- "WATCH YOUR BACKS!"

Do the entire nine judges on the 11th Circuit, one of the most conservative in the country, and made up mostly of Reagan appointees, deserve the same swift kick? They affirmed Thompson's decision.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but only two judges from the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed Thompson's decision.

I thought the entire court reviewed the decision.

If they didn't, why didn't Moore ask them to?

Swearing on a Bible is now optional, in federal court, and in most states. Apparently telling the truth is also optional. Ask the American people. Bubba lied in court. The executive would hardly arrest itself. The Congress had the power to punish the liar under oath. The Congress refused. Congress does not care whether or not folks tell the truth in court.

Ok, here goes...

Thou shalt not kill...Murder is a crime. All degrees of murder are crimes.

Thou shalt not steal...This covers grand theft, embezzlement and right on down to petty shoplifiting.

Thou shalt not commit adultry...Yep, it is still illegal in some states.

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor...Perjury comes to mind.

Want more?

Love the tag. What's going on here? The AM's been mighty busy - it is like reading documents produced by the government, with redactions.

You are wrong. It was three. And a different panel denied the untimely request for a stay.

For a Christian trying to hold to the Old Testament, it should really be titled "In MOSES I trust"

And since you mention the words of the constitution, what do the words, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion..." SAY?

It's really more like a prophesy or something and was not actually intended to be interpreted as law. What they mean is that Congress shall only make laws DISrespecting an establishment of religion. This proves that the framers uncannily anticipated and predicted Patrick Leahy 200 years ago.

Myron H. Thompson was confirmed as a federal judge by the Democratic Senate in 1980, only a few months before the Reagan landslide. If the Republicans had delayed confirmation, a Reagan appointee would have filled the seat Thompson now holds.

The panel of the 11th Circuit which unanimously upheld Thompson's decision on appeal consisted of 3 judges-- one Reagan appointee, one Bush (Sr.) appointee, and one Clinton appointee.

Courts of Appeals sit in panels of 3 judges. All 3 affirmed Thompson's decision. (2 of the 3 signed on to a special warning to Moore not to defy the court's ruling.)
