CA: Proposition 54 needs your Faxes!
CA: YES on Proposition 54 ^ | 08-22-03 | Diane Schacterle

Posted on 08/24/2003 10:39:40 AM PDT by Alia

On Wednesday August 27 a joint session of the Assembly and Senate Judiciary committees will hear testimony and public comment on Proposition 54. The legislative staff sent the following message:

"Just wanted to let you know that groups and individuals have been contacting us who want to submit letters in opposition to the proposition for the hearing record. If you know of any groups or individuals that would like to do the same in support of the proposition, their letters would be welcomed as well. They can be addressed to Senator Martha Escutia and Assemblymember Ellen Corbett (the chairs of the Senate and Assembly Judiciary committees). Our fax number is (916) 445-8390."

We would be appreciative if some letters in support of Proposition 54 could be entered into the record as well. Please take a few minutes and fax in a supportive letter. Please share this email with any groups or clubs that are also supportive of Proposition 54.

From www.racialprivacy.org:

RPI is a California constitutional initiative that will come before voters in the next statewide election, currently scheduled for October 7, 2003.
http://www.racialprivacy.org/Photo: ©2003 ARTTODAY, INC., and its licensors. All rights reserved.

"The state shall not classify any individual by race, ethnicity, color or national origin in the operation of public education, public contracting or public employment."

RPI’s MISSION STATEMENT
Passage of RPI will do many things:
save our state budget over $10 million, end government’s preferential treatment based on race, and junk a 17th-century racial classification system that has no place in 21st-century America.
But most importantly, RPI’s passage will signal America’s first step towards a color-blind society.

For the full text of the Initiative, click here.

The California Constitution forbids state government from discriminating against or granting preferential treatment to any citizen based on race. Therefore, since government has no reason to classify persons by race, why should it even ask us for the data? Like religion, marital status or sexual orientation, race should become a private matter that is no business of government’s.
Think how refreshing it would be to throw out the entire system of checking little boxes.

As the most ethnically diverse state in the Union, California has the most to gain by compelling its government to treat all citizens equally and without regard to race.
The latest U.S. Census divides Americans into a whopping 126 different ethnic/racial categories.

How many categories should Californians put up with?

SOME OF OUR ENDORSERS:
Shelby Steele
George Will
Thomas Sowell
Walter Williams
Ward Connerly

While you're at it, ask arnold to support Connerly and 54.

Don't count on it. D.O. will merely gush about how friendly, charming, and disarming Arnold is when he announces his reasons for defending the indefensible.

Style is everything to the Schwarzenpubbies.

Thank you, Mark! Excellent having those two articles back to back. Manny Klauser also worked with us on Prop 209. In fact... When 9th circuit Thelton Henderson tried to pull a Phaelzer (187) after 209 was approved by the voters -- Manny was the lawyer who defended 209.

In re "ethnic" classifications. We are humans. We do classify "subspecies" as in birds, mammals, etc. The idea of "classifying" humans is a long ugly carry over which the "NO on 54" author purports to support! Additionally, do a google on "crecno" -- and it will take you all over the map to every CONCEIVABLE lefty, racist-oriented website.
