Much of (Arnolds) strategy is based on cross over appeal to non-Republican voters given his comparitvely moderate views on issues such as gun control, abortion and gay rights.

But less than two weeks into his first run for elected office, Schwarznegger has already become a politically polarizing figure.

Roughly seven in ten Democratic voters have an unfavorable impression of the action-movie star, while the same number of likely Republican voters expressed a favorable view.

The actor won the support of 39% of likely Republican voters, 20% of Independents, and 7% of Democrats polled.

McClintock recieved 21% of the Republican vote, Simon recieved 12% and Uberroth 10%.

If you were genuine, you'd want McClintock to give it his best shot, articulating his positions and gathering as much support as possible, and only THEN, as the election looms much closer, determine whether or not his candidacy has a solid chance of winning, and if not, withdrawing and throwing his support to Arnold (as at least some improvement over the Democrat fascists currently running things).

Some of us see from the outset that we don't have time for that. Some of us know McClintock as an excellent speaker and portrayer of conservatism but not known for getting things done. Let's go with a winner. Arnold doesn't need the fame, isn't using the governorship as a stepping stone, and has done every little thing he has set out to do, with excellence. I don't die on every hill, and I am wise enough to avoid utopian thinking.

But instead of encouraging someone who you CLAIM better represents your positions, you immediately badmouth him, call him names, and harass his supporters.

I would never namecall or badmouth; that is just wrong. His supporters, however, will indeed elect Bustamente if they don't compromise, which is their choice.

This makes you frauds where conservatism is concerned. You are fools, cowards, and worthy of no respect.

As previously stated, I believe namecalling or insulting is wrong.

In fact, it's because of your ilk's self-fulfilling prophecies of doom as you've pushed previous RINO candidates that the presumption exists that a conservative can't win.

When you decide to go for a swim, it's best to make sure whether you will be diving into water or mayonnaise. CA is mayonnaise right now for a "true blue conservative." The liberal media have frightened all the silly liberals into thinking we have blood dripping from our fangs.

Heard the one about the frog who goes happier to the boil when the temperature goes up slowly? Think of CA libs as frogs. It's not hard to do.

I repeat - do the math. McClintock has to appeal to Dems and Independents to win. He can't do that campaigning to his right.

How dare you voice optimism, hope and a positive attitude here on FR. You might actually convince someone that they not doomed - and that is just wrong.

You damn Commie RINO!

Ranting, hating, calling people "pathetic losers" and so on is what conservatives and all people that rest assuredly in the fact that they are correct on something are supposed to do. You can tell liberals and leftists know they are right because they scream and hate everything. If only we were that sure of ourselves... if only it weren't for damn, Neo-con, RINO, ChiCom-lovers like you! You just don't get it, do you?

How WILL the rest of us get along without that?? : )

My point being, is all of us have the opportunity to suffer the crisis along with California. For some, it's felt that what happens in California is the business of California residence only and some non-residence are enjoying the situation California is in. I dissagree with that mindset.

"BTW, out here in California, people are HOT at the fact that the high gas taxes they pay that are supposed to be used to construct badly needed roads and freeways are being funneled into the liberals' pet project, mass transit, while they continue to spend hours in traffic jams?"

Tell me about it....

The problem is that the Dems ( and the Reps ) do not take mass transit seriously and use it as a way to funnel funds to their buddies pet projects.

There is simply not enough space left in the urbanized areas of California to build the size highways that would be needed to move the traffic in 20 years.

There is simply no other option.

The best example we have is New York, which simply could not survive without their transit system moving hundreds of thousands of passengers a day.

It works, and it's worked well for a hundred years - when will California learn ?

What I noticed about McClintock is that he has about as much charisma as Davis and he seems rather arrogant. I can't see those qualities connecting at this point with Californians, even if on paper he may be the most qualified. I do NOT believe these polls about Arnold way behind, either. It is just too convenient with the Davis-Clinton strategy of blaming Republicans & right-wingers and connecting it all to Florida & impeachment...and all of a sudden Busta-grande is way ahead. Polls can and always will be manipulated.

Hey, had FR been around in 1980, we'd have known that Ronald Reagan was nothing but a RINO - he just wasn't willing to speak straight up and fight....

All McClintock did on Fox News Live was bash fellow Republicans???? Holy scorched earth, Batman!

If it was as you say it was, I have lost a lot of respect for the man. You so-called purists can have him.

This poll is BS. I can't believe Busta-mental is ahead. Why would people dump Davis and install an ideological twin???? The only poll that matters will be taken October 7th.

The DNC could not have said it better.

No way. For many states, it's even a good thing.

Love Rush, but yes, famously: "Hillary will never run for Senate."

California "conservatives" and the GOP there are wholly, utterly, completely politically inept.

Yes; the secret is the unpublicized Great White Shark attacks. The entire CA Republican party has only 3 testicles left to share among them.

Um, except that we conservatives in Texas, as opposed to being politically inept morons like conservatives in some other state I can think of, have the Hispanic crowd voting 50/50 now and only trending more towards conservatism.

That's correct. Hispanics here in TX are not a Democrat "lock." They do trend 50/50 between the Pubs and the RATS.

I've yet to see a demonstration of how California's problems affect me as a Texan. Texas has only seen positive effects from California chasing its businesses away.

I'm sorry I didn't realise you were from Texas. Disregard my statements then for you live in a different country! I've heard from some that "there are Americans...and then there are Texans!" ; )
