Bustamante Leads Schwarznegger in Recall Race [McClintock gettng 21% of GOP Votes]

Much of (Arnolds) strategy is based on cross over appeal to non-Republican voters given his comparitvely moderate views on issues such as gun control, abortion and gay rights.

But less than two weeks into his first run for elected office, Schwarznegger has already become a politically polarizing figure.

Roughly seven in ten Democratic voters have an unfavorable impression of the action-movie star, while the same number of likely Republican voters expressed a favorable view.

The actor won the support of 39% of likely Republican voters, 20% of Independents, and 7% of Democrats polled.

McClintock recieved 21% of the Republican vote, Simon recieved 12% and Uberroth 10%.

I think a lot of people outside of CA secretly rejoice at the thought of complete disaster for our state.

That would be foolish for them since California has the 5th largest economy in the world, we would ALL go down with the flush!

The latest poll shows that Schwarzenegger has a UNFAVORABLE rating for 7 out of 10 Democrats...

I'll stick by my statement. It appears that McClintock wins among Conservatives and Arnold appeals to some Conservatives, many Republicans, independents, and maybe that 3 out of 10 Democrats in the poll you mentioned.

Without a pre-concieved adgenda that is in opposition to the legislature, he will be free to persue good and effective ideas from any corner.

So, all I have to do to win is vote for someone who has no agenda that is in opposition to the legislature that has driven this State into the ground and made it the laughing stock of this nation? Good and effective ideas are in opposition to the legislature here by their very nature!

BTW, out here in California, people are HOT at the fact that the high gas taxes they pay that are supposed to be used to construct badly needed roads and freeways are being funneled into the liberals' pet project, mass transit, while they continue to spend hours in traffic jams?

And you say Arnie might be able to push though more mass transit?

I always love that "5th largest economy" statement. It's usually found in the same paragraph that discusses California being 38 billion in the hole and facing insolvency.

Not salivating at all. I don't give a flip what California does with their state other than the fact I'd like to have a GOP Governor take Bush around and promote him next year. My solution would be, as you say, to have either McClintock or Schwarzenegger quit.

If McClintock quits, the people that make up his percentage points will either stay home or vote for Schwarzenegger (to defeat the DNC). If Schwarzenegger quits, his percentage points will either stay home (which could be a good amount since he will bring out a lot of riff raff that doesn't normally vote), vote for McClintock, or vote for Cruz (or someone else). Given this, the latter is clearly the best chance for the GOP to win the election. But as many on FR have shown, they hate the GOP to begin with and would rather have a Democrat in office to yell at in the first place. So, whatever, I say. Someone quit, or enjoy Cruz.

Rule of law and friends, I understand where you're coming from, and deeply sympathise.

I agree that Arnold has some positions most of us don't care for.

But how about comparing them with those of the apparent front runner, Mr Bustamante?

I would argue that on virtually every point argued in post #121, Bustamante has significantly more radical positions, and would be considerably more likely to take action on them.

In any event, this election is not about gun control or abortion. This election is about saving our state from a terrible crisis.

And in that instance, you have to choose between someone who has staked his political future on not raising taxes, and someone who plans to protect his union friends by increasing them substantially.

If you want a union thug to win, by all means vote for McClintock or stay away from the polls. To me, that's a price way too high to pay.

I'm not asking Tom or anyone else to drop out of the race, not until a couple of weeks before the election. I don't think it's too early, though, to consider the impact a Bustamante win would have on the state.

I'm going to tell you, it won't be pretty. If you disagree, tell me a few Bustamante positions you feel are BETTER than Arnold's.
