Bustamante Leads Schwarznegger in Recall Race [McClintock gettng 21% of GOP Votes]

Much of (Arnolds) strategy is based on cross over appeal to non-Republican voters given his comparitvely moderate views on issues such as gun control, abortion and gay rights.

But less than two weeks into his first run for elected office, Schwarznegger has already become a politically polarizing figure.

Roughly seven in ten Democratic voters have an unfavorable impression of the action-movie star, while the same number of likely Republican voters expressed a favorable view.

The actor won the support of 39% of likely Republican voters, 20% of Independents, and 7% of Democrats polled.

McClintock recieved 21% of the Republican vote, Simon recieved 12% and Uberroth 10%.

California is a lost cause, really, so I'm not sure it matters who is elected, because the electorate is its own worst enemy in that state.

But, that being said, AS is head and shoulders below McClintock. When I first heard Arnold was running I thought it was a good idea, and said that I'd even support the campaign if I lived in the State.

But his 'take' on issues (not just one, but many) at the core of Republican ideology have changed my opinion, because they are eviserating and that can't stand. I'm really not a one issue person, Arnold's wrong on many IMO.

And if he said he'd never forgive the party he calls himself a member of, because certain other members of the party chose the selfless path of nailing that SOB Clinton to the wall, I've got a big time problem with that. BIG TIME!

Sometimes a loss is preferable to a win in the long run, and IMO this is one of those times. And it is up to the party faithful to hold those at the Party helm responsible for their choices. If the party fears a serious rift, they'll take heed.

The more Conservative wing of the Party, of which I don't really consider myself a member of, has compromised a lot. They've backed Bush in nearly 100% of his endeavors, to date. Without much grumbling, I might add. That's what being in the wilderness for decades will do. If they want to exert their will at this point in time, I say they've made a good pick w/this Arnold thang.

As JFK said, 'sometimes Party asks too much.' I'm not a 100% convinced this is an illustration of his adage, but convinced enough to support the Conservatives who are opposed to Arnold's gubenatorial (sp?) ambitions.

Dynamics in the state have changed since the election. It is beginning to dawn on more people that liberal politics are killing California. They are ready to consider a genuine alternative--which is why Bustamante's support is WAY below fifty percent.

A lot of Republicans support Arnold only because they believe the fiction that a conservative cannot win. They would support McClintock if Arnold the Liberal would withdraw.

Trust me, although I would LOVE to see a conservative win in California, it's just IMPOSSIBLE with the dynamics of California today. Tell me the last time a true conservative won statewide office in California. California has PC and liberalism so stuck up its behind that any candidate who even talks about the real problems (illegal aliens sucking up services monies, out-of-control spending by the state on superfluous things like tofu shakes for homeless people, free condoms for homosexuals in bathhouses, etc) is instantly branded racist by the media and the Dems and run out of town.

Arnold is the only hope for the GOP to pick up the governor's seat in California this year. Do I agree with every single one of his policies? Of course not. Do I believe he's the only GOPer who can win? Yes. And that's why I'm going to vote for him.

Not news to me. I've been telling those who, based on NOTHING but their own false perceptions, kept saying how Schwarzenegger would split the dem vote, that the above would be the scenario.

Thanks Kevin, I appreciate the kind words. I really was supportive of his campaign until this week. But the more I kept reading about his 'views' the more I began to reject him and his 'take' on things. He's a lightweight who should be shown what the Republican Party stands for, post haste.

The liberals may be trying to force Mc Clintock out of the race so that it become a Arnie/Cruz race. Why? I'm thinking they may have some dirt on Arnie and are going to release it close to election (like they did with Bush and the DUI story). Then the cross over voters will go back to Bustamonte and he wins.

TO ALL THE FAKE CONSERVATIVES PUSHING FOR MCCLINTOCK TO BOW OUT:

That's right. Fake conservatives. Your "punt on first down" strategy betrays you. It's pure cowardice, which is not part of conservatism. If you were genuine, you'd want McClintock to give it his best shot, articulating his positions and gathering as much support as possible, and only THEN, as the election looms much closer, determine whether or not his candidacy has a solid chance of winning, and if not, withdrawing and throwing his support to Arnold (as at least some improvement over the Democrat fascists currently running things).

But instead of encouraging someone who you CLAIM better represents your positions, you immediately badmouth him, call him names, and harass his supporters. This makes you frauds where conservatism is concerned. You are fools, cowards, and worthy of no respect. In fact, it's because of your ilk's self-fulfilling prophecies of doom as you've pushed previous RINO candidates that the presumption exists that a conservative can't win. Had Simon not run an incompetent campaign, he'd be in the governor's mansion now. Now that there's a candidate running an intelligent campaign, getting increasing exposure, you don't have the stomach for a battle. You're more impressed with the "R" on Arnold's name tag than what he may do once in office.
