Geoghan killed in prison (Boston Herald)
Breaking news/by Eric Convey
Saturday, August 23, 2003
Former priest John Geoghan, a notorious pedophile whose case sparked the clergy molestation scandal of the past 18 months, died this afternoon after being attacked at the state prison in Shirley.
``The perpetrator has been isolated,'' said Kelly Nantell, a spokeswoman for the state Deparment of Corrections.
``Our investigation continues,'' she said.
The matter has been referred to the Middlesex County District Attorney Martha Coakley's office.
Geoghan was serving a nine-to-10 year sentence at MCI Shirley for allegedly groping a boy at a Waltham swimming pool.
More than 140 people have claimed they were abused by Geoghan, claiming they were fondled or raped at locations ranging from church rectories to their own homes.
Geoghan would become one the most notorious pedophiles in the country - not only for the extent of his rampage against children but because relevations about his case led to the unraveling of secrecy within the Archdiocese of Boston.
Bernard Cardinal Law's cordial letters to Geoghan, mixing discipline with praise for his priestly service, that pushed many victims from disbelief to outrage.

Satan may be TRYING to destroy the Church (he's been at it for 2,000 years), but it won't work. Christ assured us that the gates of Hell would not prevail and we trust Him.
I can't vouch for the episcopalians.

why not "their ancestors are probably the folks you see in old photos standing proudly around the hanging guy they just lynched?
or is it more egregious if the lynched were black?
To: Desdemona
I am not disputing who will be the victor in the end of course Jesus.
I am saying when the CAtholic and Episcopal Church looses members because of the sin they allow to happen then Satan is impacting the church

As much as I want to be elated over this incident, that's not the way it works for me.
May God have mercy on Mr. Geoghan and may the healing of his victims begin anew.

I've lived too long to believe there is no difference between "law" and "justice" As long as baby rapers and those that enable them exist, hold office, and convince socialist fools that NAMBLA is an expression of "love" then I will restrain myself.
If I thought that it would make a change, I would lop off Socialist heads until the streets looked like a bowling alley on Saturday night.

Leave it to convicts to render the justice the penal system is too wussy to exercise.

no, that guy was Heir to the Max Factor (makeup conglomeration) fortune. That sick f**k was drugging women with GHB, then raping them while they were unconcious. Like a dummy, he taped all of them, then tried to say it was consensual. Right before the verdict in his trial, he jumped bail. A bounty hunter found him, and since bounty hunting is illegal in Mexico, the federales threw them both in jail =)

I don't disagree with your sentiment...I just see it as impossible to implement. Other than that, the end result would seem to be desirable.

Roman Catholicism doesn't have those 32 and 33rd degrees, either....Well, the Knights of Columbus do. But, they don't have a cool secret handshake.
You are wrong. There are only four. I would enlighten you about the principles each stands for but it appears you have already condemned that which you have little knowledge about. Big difference between KofC and masons. Knights serve the Lord. And masons may not become Knights under any circumstances.

See you later. I'll bring the chainsaw and the swords.

The biggest reason that people have been falling away from Catholicism and are lax in practice is lack of Catechisis. Those of us who grew up in the immediate post-Vatican II - environment, I guess - were not taught well at all. So, now we're playing catch-up. Those who remain apostate and prodigals, well, that's a different story. Actually, we're gaining more than "losing" right now.
The episcopalians I don't know anything about.
The truth is, when this broke, among a lot of Catholics, it was all no great surprise, at least among the guys. They'd tell each other to stay away from certain priests. It was an open secret. But, it did not effect people's faith, because that would be allowing men to drive one away and that is against personal faith.
The lst 18-months have been more of a purge than anything else. Hey, we're less happy about it than anyone else is.

Good, then you'd end up where self-righteous vigilantes belong...in JAIL!
Yeah, and you'll end up where you belong...pulling your head out of some liberal wacko's,(like Justice Rose Bird's) A$$!
then you can explain to your 10 your son , who had just been repeatedly sodomized by Father O'Hara durring alter boy practice, that he's not really a bad man, just a little sick who needs to get well...

15 years ago there was one prison (Concord? Walpole?) which had a wing all the mafia guys got sent where they were allowed hot plates and allowed to buy shrimp and lobster via the prison commissary. The tomato sauce for spaghetti/pasta would be simmering for hours for their Sunday feasts. Shrimp scampi etc."Goodfellas " was a documentary.

I have no intention of discussing this with a person such as yourself
Who would you discuss it with then?
...someone who already agrees with you? Where's the fun in that?
To: dagoofyfoot
I don't like to bash any religion, (with the exception of islam) You make a comment like this and then proceed to further bash the Catholic Church?????
...but more and more the catholic church is becoming a haven for pedophiles.
What are you talking about? ...... the VAST majority of these cases occurred years ago.
I left the Church years ago, for reasons totally unrelated to the issue of pedophilia - but people like you are causing me to seriously considering returning.

There were such prison scenes in Goodfellows? No I haven't seen it. "Hoffa" rates as a great Mafia movie for me.

Agreed. Their ancestors are probably the folks you see in old photos standing proudly around the hanging black guy they just lynched.
Um...I don't think you're doing the blacks justice here...
There's a big difference when you try to compare the prison murder of priest accused and convicted of serial child molestation, and the lynching of some poor soul murdered for simply being black...think about it.
To: Desdemona
The Catholic church is a magnet for anything and everything the least bit unsavory. Always has been. Always will be. And you have facts to back up this claim???????
What a disgusting thing to say. I've had my problems with the Church over the years, nothing having to do with priests, but as I said to another poster, it's people like you that are causing me to seriously think about returning.

Exactly my point...why has it taken so long for the truth to come out?
-but people like you are causing me to seriously considering returning
People like you who refuse to come to grips with how serious this problem is, are in denial. Only when the good people do nothing, can evil flourish!

There were such prison scenes in Goodfellows? No I haven't seen it.See it. It was hilarious. The wise-guys had wine smuggled in, and "...see, Pauly had this system. He'd shave the garlic so thin that it would practically melt on the hot plate."
