A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

~ Billie, Mama_Bear, dansangel, dutchess, Aquamarine, FreeTheHostages ~

To Our FReeper FRiends: We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. We thought we'd kick back on the weekends and simply review the features of the week. If you missed seeing them and want to say hello there now, feel free to click on the link to that particular thread. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today and tomorrow, please feel free to do that also. One of us will always be around to see the welcome mat is still out, and maybe even put fresh flowers on the table. ~ Billie

They should be availabe in your grocery stores. I use the quick cook kind. 1.5 min in the microwave and they are cooked..for an individual serving.

Good Sunday Morning everyone. I hope you have a blessed Lord's Day.

I wanted to share something exciting with you and other quilters on this thread. (I can't remember who all quilts in here. Darn my memory).

Allyson and I are going to start making Freedom Quilts. They are lap quilts for returning war wounded . Ally is a better quilter than myself and is really excited about doing this. Since we homeschool, we have more time for servanthood in our lives.

Are there any wounded vets around here at FR who need a lap quilt? They said if we know of anyone, they will try to get a quilt to them. I don’t know of anyone. I’m really excited about finding Allyson something she can personally do for our troops. Her homeschool co-op class is going to do some work at the Veterans Hospital this year. That will be good for all of them.

I finally finished my first quilt top last night. As soon as I can get a picture of it, I'll post it for everyone to see. It's a queen size pain in the neck, but it's gorgeous.

What a wonderful plan, Spookie. :o)

We've made a few miniature quilts (of the Americana style) for folks but have been thinking more along your line lately. How fitting you've shared your plan today. :)

As I was walking down life's highway many years ago

I came upon a sign that read

Heavens Grocery Store.

When I got a little closer the doors swung open wide

And when I came to myself I was standing inside.

I saw a host of angels.

They were standing everywhere

One handed me a basket and said "My child shop with care."

Everything a human needed was in that grocery store

And what you could not carry you could come back for more

First I got some Patience.

Love was in that same row.

Further down was Understanding, you need that everywhere you go.

I got a box or two of Wisdom and Faith a bag or two.

And Charity of course I would need some of that too.

I couldn't miss the Holy Ghost It was all over the place.

And then some Strength and Courage to help me run this race.

My basket was getting full but I remembered I needed Grace,

And then I chose Salvation for Salvation was for free

I tried to get enough of that to do for you and me.

Then I started to the counter to pay my grocery bill,

For I thought I had everything to do the Masters will.

As I went up the aisle I saw Prayer and put that in,

For I knew when I stepped outside I would run into sin.

Peace and Joy were plentiful,

the last things on the shelf.

Song and Praise were hanging near so I just helped myself.

Then I said to the angel "Now how much do I owe?"

He smiled and said "Just take them everywhere you go."

Again I asked "Really now, How much do I owe?"

"My child" he said, "God paid your bill a long long time ago."

YEAR OF 1903

The year is 1903, one hundred years ago ... what
a difference a century makes.

Remember, the late Bob Hope was born this year.

Here are the US statistics for 1903:

The average life expectancy in the US was forty-seven (47).

Only 14 Percent of the homes in the US had a bathtub.

Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone. A three-minute call from Denver to New York City cost eleven dollars.

There were only 8,000 cars in the US and only 144 miles of
paved roads. The maximum speed limit in most cities was
10 mph.

Alabama, Mississippi, Iowa, and Tennessee were each more
heavily populated than California. With a mere 1.4 million
residents, California was only the 21st most populous state
in the Union.

The average US worker made between $200 and $400 per year. A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, a dentist $2,500 per year, a veterinarian between $1,500 and $4,000.

More than 95 percent of all births in the US took place at home.

Sugar cost four cents a pound. Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen. Coffee cost fifteen cents a pound.

Most women only washed their hair once a month and used borax or egg yolks for shampoo.

Canada passed a law prohibiting poor people from entering the country for any reason.

The five leading causes of death in the US were:
1. Pneumonia and influenza
2. Tuberculosis
3. Diarrhea
4. Heart disease
5. Stroke

The American flag had 45 stars. Arizona, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Hawaii and Alaska hadn't been admitted to the Union yet.

The population of Las Vegas, Nevada was 30.

Canned beer, and iced tea hadn't been invented.

There were no Mother's Day or Father's Day.

One in ten US adults couldn't read or write. Only 6 percent
of all Americans had graduated from high school.

Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over the
counter at corner drugstores. According to one pharmacist,
"Heroin clears the complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind,
regulates the stomach and the bowels, and is, in fact,
a perfect guardian of health.

"Eighteen percent of households in the US had at least one
full-time servant or domestic.

There were only about 230 reported murders in the entire US.

Just think what it will be like in another 100 years from now.

It boggles the mind.......... Pass this alone to the Younger Generation!!! They need to hear it!!!

Priceless reminder, Dave - thank you.....
How could we manage without God's blessed assurance?!

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

3 Because thy lovingkindness is better than life,
my lips shall praise thee.

4 Thus will I bless thee while I live;
I will lift up my hands in thy name.

5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness;
and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips;

6 When I remember thee upon my bed,
and meditate on thee in the night watches.

7 Because thou hast been my help,
therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.

~ Psalm 63 3-7 ~
