Even though my child goes to private school, I'm still forced to pay taxes toward the "public" schools and they teach moral principles which offend me.
Same here.

"Obviously not all Catholics are anti-pluralist secularists. "
Um, MOST are not. OTOH, the KKK has been a great foil for the Leftists to indotrinate Jews and non-Protestants into thinking that 'right wing' means anti-them. You know the ol guilt-by-association. The Left is far better than the Christian Right at marketing fear and hate, despite the usual catcalls of Left against the right (eg "hate is not a family value" preaching that traditional values=hate; whereas the left are much better at hating.)
Oh the irony of secularized Jews fearing a monument to *MOSES* is exclusionary towards them!

"Why don't we ask them to pass a law mandating the display of the Ten Commandments in all Federal courthouses?"
Great Idea!

Kiss my rosy red ass, stink.
A texan, you are not. An American? Heh. Keep it up pal.
I just hope everyone on here sees you for what you are. Did you have to write this out in crayon first?
Since you had nothing to say about the topic of this thread, I've got to wonder why you bothered.
If I cared what people thought of me, I'd have left this place two weeks after I signed on.

I don't agree with the Judge that this is one of those issues which require disbedience. If a life was at stake or some other imminent danger then the story would be different. Heck, God took his sweet time before giving his people these commandments, a few months wait wouldn't matter.

Story may have been appointed by Jefferson, but his decisions very much support federal power. Unlike, say, those of the Jacksonian Taney. You could certainly have a federal system where the power of the Supreme Court to command state courts is much more limited than it is, and nevertheless federal law -- in the sense of the U.S. Constitution and federal statutes -- is regarded as the supreme law. State courts apply federal law all the time.
In any case, those cases concern the power of the Supreme Court to command state courts. Here we have the different issue of the power of inferior federal courts to command state courts. I don't see how that's obvious under the Supremacy Clause.

Christians aren't going through what Blacks before the 60's went through.

excellent point... and true.
now prepare to be labelled an athiest... for not honoring the "law" of "stone'm for sabaath violations" moses or "stone'm for adultery" moore...
everybody knows that building statues to the commandments none of us can keep, will bring people to Jesus, as long as we don't Lift Jesus UP, and erect those stones in Moses' honor right?

I was thinking it's more like the Christians in Lithuania under the USSR.
- Don't be *too* religious, or you might be publicly denounced.
- Want to get a job? Better lose that religious bumper sticker.
- Does that church comply with *all* regulations? Let's perform an audit, just in case...
I once read a book on what the Christians in Lithuania went through. It was a real eye-opener.

Just because you have the freedom to do something,
doesnt mean it is the right thing to do.
So go ahead, excercise your freedom of religion as you see fit. But dont call it "the right thing to do" unless you really mean it.

I simply choose to recognize right and wrong where I see fit. Exactly: and the inherant 'rightness&wrongness' of this matter (or ANY) had to have an origin, somewhere.
It's now going to come down to a power play to see WHICH side gets to make the call..............

The bumper sticker argument applies only to the US not the USSR :)

He doesn't have the right to remain a judge and defy a court ruling. That's the bottom line. If he can't live with the rules of the judiciary, he does not belong in it. Are you saying that you want the U.S. to be a dictatorship ruled over by the Supreme Court? What the court rules, goes?
To: grayout
He may not have chiseled the monument, but he's certainly has stated the intention of planting it where it is. Would your opinion be diferrent if he said he was an atheist and he displayed the monument to show how irrelevant those ancient laws are ?
Listen, its nuts to judge whether something is religous on the basis of the intent of the artist.
What if a judge said he worships the law and that the gavel he holds in his hand represents his religion. In fact the judge believes that all lawyers should likewise worship his gavel? Would the gavel need to be removed ?
