Hoosier Freep Meet

Posted on 08/21/2003 8:02:43 AM PDT by Arrowhead

Hello Fellow Hoosiers.

Well, the meeting is upon us and I hope everyone is looking forward to it. Since my last communications, several things have transpired that I think will make our meeting even more interesting that I had initially planned.

Please take note of the agenda below and if you have any questions of concern for it's contents, please let me know. However, I will not reveal specifics because that would ruin the element of surprise and take all the fun out of things.

Below the agenda are the directions to my office. Finding it is a cinch. In my hometown, everything is perpendicular and it is virtually impossible to get lost here. So here is the info.

Hello again fellow Hoosiers.

I have to admit that I am somewhat perplexed that nobody has responded to this thread. I hope, at the very least, those who previously said they were attending the meeting will be here. I have made some worthwhile preparations that I believe everyone will enjoy and this opportunity gives us the opportunity to meet one another.

Also, one part of the items in the agenda will cover a plan of action on the recent reassessment debacle that calls for a kick-off rally on the State Capitol.

I hope that driving distance will not be a factor in determining attendance. I travel all over the state to attend meetings and I have come to realize in my years of activity that the price of driving a little further for a good cause is well worth the adventure.

So, please, pull yourself up by the bootstraps and "Come on down!" Even if I get no response to this, I will be there in the morning and everything will be ready for those who come. Even if it is just one person.

Good stuff + Good food + Good people = Good time

Looking forward to it.

You're right - It would be at least polite to respond. My apologies.

We are preparing to close on a house, and I'm starting a new job (for better pay - take THAT, Willie Green!). Coupled with kids aged 7, 4, and 9 months - well, you get the picture. I simply can't make it.

I was present at one of the first IN freeper meetings at the Fox and Hound in Indy, so I can vouch for the beer selection, if nothing else.

I hope to make one of these meetings soon. Hopefully we can do them more regularly.

I will not be there for some very good personal reasons however, even if nobody shows up this time you should keep trying because, I know people would like to be there if not for pressing issues they need to address.

Hello Fellow Hoosiers,

I was writing a response to everyone to let you all know that nobody showed for the meeting when I humble gentlemen who was a commissioned officer in the Navy during World War II from Indianapolis come walking in the door.

We had a very pleasant talk for about an hour and 15 minutes. I was sadden that he really came for nothing at first, but as it turned out, I was the one blessed to have been able to sit and listened to a Senior Citizen tell of his observations of our county going to "hell in a hand basket." I virtually agreed with everything he said and he certainly had a handle on the fact that the forces he (and I for that matter) fought against in a foreign land appears to be prevailing over our own system.

Who could refute his observation?

While I was disappointed of the fact that the meeting did not take place, after talking with this fine gentlemen, I realized it will take more than you folks not showing to get this ol boy to give up. You all are not off the hook yet.

One blessing about all this is that I am already prepared to have it the next time. All the work I did is done. Now all I need is people to be here. So, I am proposing that we hold this meeting at a later date.

I was hoping we could have it Saturday, Sept 6th. Is anyone game? I would like to have this meeting before the 13th of Sept for a reason. I am having a meeting with several state tax and fiscal leaders of organizations that are watchdogs of government in our state. I was hoping that with what we cover in the agenda on the reassessment debacle might be useful for this meeting.

If anyone is serious about wanting to either start up a plan of action of our own, or plug in to a plan of action in the works, I am willing to set up one more time for a meeting.

I want all of you to know that I work very hard to coordinate people to act on the things that are pertinent in preserving our liberties. I am not in this to play games or to cater to the half-hearted. This is serious to me.

I know that while many of us have committments, please note that I am married. I have four children..all of them teenagers and living at home. I am an Elder in my church with certain obligations. I help serveral organizations I coordinate activites and I am a Publisher of a local newsletter and manager of the office of this newsletter. Furthermore, I work a full time job at Chrysler. I average about 3 or 4 hours a sleep a day and I come close to being late for work almost everyday, working up to the last minute on other things. I even write for my newsletter on my breaks at work and answer email on my lunch.

My point: I have learned in this business that if any of us really want to have effect upon our conditions, we must take time. Sometimes, even sacrifice of time spent with family is necessary if we are to be stewards over our freedom and independence.

So, in closing, I want you all to know that I am willing to try to do this one more time. I give you my word that I will do my best to serve you in the best professional manner that I can muster. However, as you can ascertain, I do not have time to work for nothing. I sat here in my office for two hours and was about to leave. As a matter of fact, I had called my wife to come and pick me up so that I could attend the Indy Zoo with her, our daughter, and her best friend (which was her birthday) when Mr. Hudson came to my door. Feeling somewhat embarrassed, I felt obligated to show him in and listen to his concerns. My wife pulls up to which I waved her on and spent the next hour or so with Mr. Hudson. So, please, if any of you decide that you want to hold a meeting, and you say that you will attend, please be here. If you would like to hold another on September 6th, same place and same time, I will stay active on this thread until the end of this coming week. If I get no favorable response by August 29th, I will cease activity in trying to coordinate and facilitating a meeting. Fair enough?

Give me word.

I'm game for 9/6/03. As far as I know there's nothing else scheduled that day. As for discussing reassesment, sounds good to me, but be advised mine when down and I'm going to try to get them even lower. Since my local government has destroyed the value of my property, I don't see why I should have to pay property taxes on it.

Let me know where and when.

Today is the deadline for which to determine if having the meeting was worth the response thus far. In the interest of those who have responded in every effort to serve them, I will extend my activity on thread for takers until September 2.

So far, we have two people who are willing to attend not including Mr. Hudson, who said he would return if we had a meeting. In the interest of the consideration of organizing, the meeting will be more worthwhile if we have at least five people.

So, come on over folks. I guarantee you will not regret meeting together. One poster sent me an email stating that he thought the agenda made the meeting too serious for him and he was looking to have some fun. Well, while the work itself is serious, there is no reason why we cannot have some fun. When I was a kid and it came to hanging out with people I liked, it was not what we did that was important to me...it was who I was with that made the meeting worthwhile. In the same vein, and regardless of the agenda, this meeting is more about meeting other likeminded people with the same concerns in the direction our state/nation is headed. Surely, there has got to be some fun in this as well.

So, if you can make the meeting next Saturday (6th) at 10 Am, please give this thread a ping. The agenda, the directions to my place are at the beginning of the thread. Please, come and join us. Oh, and lunch is still on me.

Hello Again Hoosier Freepers,

Tomorrow will be the deadline for responding to the meeting. So far, including Mr. Hudson, we have four who are willing to attend this weekend. If we get one more, I think it would be worth our while to get together.

However, even if we do not get five, I would still be willing to meet with those who have responded. Tomorrow morning, I will check the thread again and if we have five, it is a go. If not, I will send another ping to those who responded to see if they still want to meet.

Madmomma, here is the link to the agenda and directions to my office. There is a mapblast link on the thread as well for your convenience.

Until tomorrow...

I just wanted to let you know I will not be able to attend on Saturday. (Not because I don't want to.) I hope this Hoosier FReeper gathering goes well and that you'll let those of us unable to attend know what is accomplished. Thanks, Arrowhead, for your commitment and generosity. I hope I'll be able to come to a meeting in the future.

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but do you think posting your home address, meeting time and date on a public site might have scared some away? Heck, I may have to think about it many times before I showed up at a location where a problem might occur.
