Welcome to Pancakes on Wednesdays. Wednesday August 20, 2003 |

Here is an amalgamation of trivial facts and seemingly useless data. Do not forget to hit the hyperlinks. We have links, lots of them.
|
EDACIOUS |
Relating to eating. That, at least, is the literal sense of the word, since it comes from the Latin verb edere, to eat. But even in Latin it had a stronger sense of voracious consumption and that was carried with it into English. It was brought into the languagesurprisingly recentlyby classically educated writers at the beginning of the nineteenth century. It never really caught on and is now almost extinct, perhaps because voracious is a better established and more vigorous-sounding alternative. The Roman writer Ovid created a maxim in his Metamorphoses: Tempus edax rerum. time devours everything. As a result, in its rare appearances the word is most likely to be linked with time. Thomas Carlyle used it in this way when he referred to events swallowed in the depths of edacious time. |

AWESOME! Great news. Can you thank your "sand flea" (hope he don't get mad at me for that endearment...hehe)and tell him how proud we are of what they are doing. And, for setting those peaceniks straight. Give them a bit of reality.

Good Morning everybody! Good Morning troops! Here's my defintely-not-as-feeble-as-tomkow's attempt at humor:
During late spring one year, a blonde was trying out her new boat. She was unable to have her boat perform, travel through water, or do any maneuvers whatsoever no matter how hard she tried.
After trying for over three days to make it work properly, she decided to seek help. She putted the boat over to the local marina in hopes that someone there could identify her problem.
Workers determined that everything from the engine to the outdrive was working perfectly on the topside of the boat. So, a puzzled marina employee jumped into the water to check underneath the boat for problems. Because he was laughing so hard, he came up choking on water and gasping for air. Under the boat, still strapped in place securely, was the trailer.

A PRAYER OF PROTECTION
The light of God surround you The love of God enfold you The power of God protect you The presence of God watch over you Wherever you are,God is, And all is well. Amen.
Bless This House
Bless this house O Lord we pray;
Make it safe by night and day;
Bless these walls so firm and stout,
Keeping want and trouble out:
Bless the roof and chimneys tall,
Let thy peace lie over all;
Bless this door, that it may prove
ever open to joy and love.
Bless these windows shining bright,
Letting in God's heav'nly light;
Bless the hearth a'blazing there,
with smoke ascending like a prayer;
Bless the folk who dwell within,
keep them pure and free from sin;
Bless us all that we may be
Fit O Lord to dwell with thee;
Bless us all that one day we
May dwell O Lord with thee.

Feeble attempt at humor for the lurking troops...
PLEASE NOTE: NOT YOUR TYPICAL CHAIN LETTER. TAKE A MINUTE TO READ IT AND
YOU'LL GET A LAUGH.
Dear Friend,
This chain letter was started in hopes of bringing relief to other tired
and discouraged men. Unlike most chain letters, this one doesn't cost
anything!
Just send a copy of this letter to five of your friends who are equally
tired and discontented. Then, bundle up your wife and/or girlfriend and
send her to the man whose name appears at the top of the following list,
and add your name to the
bottom of the list.
When your turn comes, you will receive 15,625 women. One of them is
bound to be better than the one you already have.
At the writing of this letter, a friend of mine has already received 184
women, of whom four were worth keeping.
REMEMBER this chain brings luck. One man's pit bull died, and the next day he received a Playboy
playmate. An unmarried Jewish man, living with his widowed mother, was
able to choose between a Hooter's waitress and a Hollywood super model.
You can be lucky too, but DO NOT BREAK THE CHAIN! One man broke the chain and got his wife back.
Let's keep it going, men! Just add your name to the bottom of the list
below!
