Our enemies' initial "Mogadishu Strategy" - based on the faulty notion that if you kill Americans they pack up and go home
I can't really blame them for tghinking this, from the early 80s until 9-11 this has been the case. I don't think they understand that it's a new day, and they are on the top of our hit parade.

Contrast this to Kerry's rhetoric. We have them desperately trying to discourage us. We won't run.

I can't really blame them for tghinking this [that we would be defeated by another Mogadishu], from the early 80s until 9-11 this has been the case. I don't think they understand that it's a new day, and they are on the top of our hit parade. I agree. In fact, we have Osama on tape telling his followers about Mogadishu and how weak we must be to run out of there after only 18 casualties. I suppose we could have kicked Syrian and Iranian butt after the Marine barracks bombing, but the Cold War was the primary front at the time, and had to be won.

This is the point I was making last evening..
On the contrary. We've taken the War Against Terror to our enemies. It's far better to draw the terrorists out of their holes in the Middle East, where we don't have to read them their rights, than to wait for them to show up in Manhattan again.
In Iraq, we can just kill the bastards. And we're doing it with gusto.
Yes, the Canal Hotel attack proves that terrorists are rushing to Iraq like moths to a hurricane lamp. But when that happens, the lamp wins, not the moths.
Peters nails it!!!!!

The lesson the U.N. must take away is that no one can be neutral in the struggle with evil. Wonderful article.

Within our own country, every potential Howard Dean voter will declare that the U.N. headquarters bombing proves, for all time, that our occupation has failed, can never succeed, should never have been tried, and, anyway, that we're all bad people for disturbing poor, innocent dictators. Then they'll trot out the nonsense that, since Iraq has become a magnet for international terrorists, we've failed on that count, too. From Newsmax....Peters is a mindreader
"Had the president pursued the war on terrorism prior to initiating military action against Saddam Hussein, as I advocated last year, it is likely that al-Qaeda and other terrorist networks would not have been able to take advantage of the chaos that now exists in Baghdad and other parts of Iraq," said Sen. Bob Graham, D-Fla.
"It is becoming increasingly clear each day that the administration misread the situation on the ground in Iraq and lacks an adequate plan to win the peace and protect our troops," said Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass.

I suppose we could have kicked Syrian and Iranian butt after the Marine barracks bombing, but the Cold War was the primary front at the time, and had to be won.Yes, and the other cathartic event for the Islamic world was when, along with billions in weapons and aid from the US and the Saudis, they succeeded in expelling the Russians from Afghanistan, and believe me they gave themselves full credit. It's these two events, I believe, that had them believing they could actually take down the Great Satan.
Two buildings and two countries later, I hope they're reassessing this conclusion.

Thanks. I needed this today...not wavering, just a little discouraged.

If the UN cuts and runs, their people will not be safe anywhere. They might as well just lock up the doors and call it quits.

That is what I have been thinking for months now. Also, Iraq is a very close base of intelligence/black ops to neighboring Syria and Iran. On the intelligence note, I saw a program how it used to take years to entrench a country with intelligence operatives. In this case, you have lots of willing middle eastern Iraqi recruits who need and want our money for this job and dispatching them out should take far less time. Remember, Bush Sr. claim to fame was CIA during the cold war. Dad must have had some interesting advice to Bush JR.
Unfortunate for our soldiers who bear the burden of liberty and trying to destroy this enemy. However, heavily armed ground troops stand a better chance against a suicide bomber or hit and run squad then defenseless civilians.
