[history]
August 20, 2003 -- THE first strategy employed by Iraqi dead- enders and their terror- tourist allies failed miserably: They attacked U.S. forces head-on - and paid a bitter price.
With their comrades killed, wounded or captured, their leaders apprehended (another one yesterday), their bases of support whittled away and U.S. resolve only hardened, our enemies have turned to a new, desperate strategy.

Good article. The terrorists didn't win any friends in Iraq or overseas. Their attack on the UN HQ in Baghdad was an attack on their good friends the French, the Germans, and the Russians. Losing that support will help to finish them off for good. Iraq is slowly but surely finding its way towards representative government. Despite all the chaos and violence of the last several months the bottom line is that things are getting better. And they will continue to get better in the days and weeks and months ahead. The terrorists forgot one thing about America: we don't quit til the mission is finished.

From the article: ~
"It's far better to draw the terrorists out of their holes in the Middle East, where we don't have to read them their rights, than to wait for them to show up in Manhattan again. In Iraq, we can just kill the bastards." As the rhetoric about "quagmire" heats up--I hope Americans remember this and stand firm.

"In Iraq, we can just kill the bastards."
We best not restrict this approach to Iraq. I will know the world is serious about crushing Islamic terror when I see the first terrorist executed by the American gov't, not just killed by the American military, and when I see the beseiged nation of Israel change their stupid Euro-lefty anti-death penalty law and start executing Pali murderers and accomplices to suicide killers, who at least spare us their continued existence.
Still, despite my quibbles, I nominate this for quote of the day.

More ammo for the upcoming war of ideas vs. partisan emotionalism:
Our enemies are frantically trying to prove to the people of Iraq and the world that they remain powerful and viable. But they aren't powerful or viable:

As the rhetoric about "quagmire" heats up--I hope Americans remember this and stand firm. Amen, friend. This is a very good article that a lot of folks here desperately need to read and take to heart.

Bump. Needs to be thrown in the face of Lieberman and Gephard, who were using yesterday's events to question our presence in Iraq, implying unwinnable quagmire.

Our enemies' initial "Mogadishu Strategy" - based on the faulty notion that if you kill Americans they pack up and go home - was a disaster for them. Our response devastated their already-crippled organization. Now, with reduced capabilities and decayed leadership, they've turned to attacking soft targets. It's the best they can do. With all the scaredy cats out there it's refreshing to have an assessment from someone who BELIEVES TERROR CAN BE DEFEATED.
Terror has been confronted throughout history, and has to be defeated through consequences. The Japanese are the most pacifist people on earth now.
We've got 'em on the run, both physically and psychologically. This bombing, no doubt performed by a non-Iraqi, may be the catalyst which brings more cooperation from the Iraqi people themselves, it has potential to cause them to realize who the real enemy is now.

If we can bring just a modicum of peace and prosperity to Iraq, then the Islamic goal of the return of the caliphate will be eradicated, the people just will not listen to the radical-Islam message anymore, and terror will be history. Iraq is militant Islam's potential Waterloo, and they know it.

We can either kill THEM in Iraq or wait for them to come to our shores to kill unarmed, unsuspecting civilians.
