Once again, the Internet (and FR in particular) is left to tell the good news while the mainstream media tries to sell their image of what the news should be.

Politically, greater Baghdad is populated with people who owe their privileged status in life to Saddam Hussein and the Baath Party. Most Iraqis, by contrast, were brutally oppressed by Saddam.
it seems there are some "blue areas" on the map of Iraq ... and they're in the cities ...

Talked to my Marine yesterday. I am thankful he is finally coming home. He is another city. I asked him how the Iraqi's feel about them being there. He said they don't want us to leave. And to this day, when they head into the city - it's like a parade of happy people (lots of kids) cheering them on. Just like this article says. Thanks for posting it.

I'm glad Bush sent our brave troops in to kick some Islmami *ss, but I'm not fallin' for this warm fuzzy talk. Be reallistic. They are all beyond redemption, they are heathans and hate Americans. I say let God sort 'em out.

According to CNN, it is like this " Bush Bad, Saddam Good.
That is what the Iraqi people were saying on CNN yesterday. CNN is always right. Right?

Two Iraqi children once spontaneously shouted to me, "France, Chirac!" while giving the thumbs-down sign and shaking their heads disapprovingly. The children quickly smiled and shouted "Bush!" while punching the sky. Smart kids! ..... :-)

That's what the Iraqi army and the militias we are forming are for. When they are up and running, I am assuming we will pull most of our troops out but establish some "out of sight" bases in the desert for a while to make sure everyone knows the referee is still around.

Thank you, Miss Linda.
It reminds me of the following: A Montrealer named John MacDonald who used to work at ABC News (and may still), who was a childhood friend of a college buddy of mine, used to tell about his reports from Beirut. There used to be stories about ghastly upheavals in Beirut during the late 70's or early 80's, backed up on video with shots of wrecked buildings, etc. Well, at the time, all of the dreadful background shots were taken from various angles OF THE SAME TWO BLOCK AREA OF THE CITY! Apparently, the rest of the city was just fine (at the time, that is: I believe that changed later), but in order to have a story, the media members would cynically trot down to this small area to show the "devastation". I believe the media's own name for this two block area was "TV Alley". A little like filming the worst of the projects and claiming, "This is New York City".
