Sixteen million people and none of them have any power, says Bill O'Reilly.
Damn few of them have weapons for self defense, either. The perps are well armed, though.

John Gibson on Fox reporting a spokesman for a federal agency (sorry, forget which one deals with energy) blames fire at electrical station in Manhattan as cause.
Bummer. I really wanted it to be Canada's fault. Maybe a Canadian started the fire?

Quickly. But they would like it to be orderly with minimum loss so it is controlled by a software program. At some nuclear plants I worked, we could dump 100% of the load in milliseconds if there was a problem on the grid or with the electrical generator.
Ahh, thanks for the info - I knew it was fast, didn't realize it was that fast. This shutdown across the NE sounded almost simultaneous so I'd be willing to bet the safeguards kicked in. Digging around on the web, I didn't realize just how complex that grid is - amazing how fast it could shut down to basically protect itself against overload, but a pain to bring back up.
Just a general comment, not meant to offend or be directed at anyone in particular, but it worries me that people panic so quickly. That tells me that people rely too much on technology and/or are too comfortable in their lives.

LOL. Great story, thanks for the laugh.

BBC News 24 reporting that all nuclear plants in Ohio have been shut down as a precaution.
