Mayor of NY saying smoke may just be caused from the power outage, and conflicting reports of cause continue to come in.
Hard to believe they don't know exactly what the cause is........

There was a power outage last week and 2 were killed in Basra, Iraq.
What do you think will happen in Detroit? NYC?

I was only days old for the 1965 blackout but remember the 1977 version. They keep saying that they are putting measures in place to make sure it never happens again and it keeps happening again.

It must be all of those candidates in California attacking the power brokers.

Actually sounds much more widespread than the 65 blackout. True ... my local news is reporting that the Fed Gov is saying it is not terrorism

Thanks for the explanation! My brother-in-law used to work for CommEd here for nearly 20 years in the Chicago area until they decimated his dept. (research chemistry).
To: Cagey
Why do you think that is? Power grid more interconnected now leading to massive failures, or are the big substations all overloaded?

If this outage goes through the night, we will see how much our society has "grown" since the "big one" in the 60's.
Stay safe, East Coast Freepers.

Pictures are just a reminder of 9/11 with people streaming into the streets. Is it that hot in the northeast that the power grids are overloaded?
I just got back and wonder how hot it is up north?

Where are the FREEPers who were making jokes about France and their power problems? Where are they at now?
To: Petronski
Of greater concern, is the thought that they may not have done it, but they may take advantage of it...

This thing is ugly ..... just wait for the riots and looting to start.
