Re Philly City Hall evacuation -- probably due to HEAT/humidity with no a/c and windows that don't open. I understand .. But Phill still has power

The blackouts could conceivably spread throughout the Eastern Interconnect, but it wouldn't cross into the Western half of the country, or into the Texas Interconnect. This is true, but after the first few minutes of disturbance, the system is stabilized. Picking the customers back up could take a couple of days though - I'm certain that plenty of plants tripped off line due to overfrequency when they lost their load (self-protection for the equipment). Any nuke units that tripped will take a while to restart due to red tape.

THINGS NORMAL IN CALIFORNIA --- Since the power outage, 500,000 more illegal Mexican citizens have invaded Southern California. They are doing the following -- popping out babies in county hospitals, waiting in line at the DMV, applying for welfare benefits, and peeing on street corners as they wait for contractors with jobs.

I was in NY (visiting the UN with my college poli sci class) when they had the black out in about '66. Luckily we were just getting ready to leave when it happened, but going throught the tunnel was in the dark was a little scarey.

We just heard one minute ago that ALL NY AIRPORTS ARE SHUT DOWN.Oh yeah, the AIRPORTS are screwed; FAA is just saying that air traffic control is normal.
To: Timesink
Of course, if it were terrorism, isn't that what they would say?

ConEd has a big plant in Manhattan ...at 14th Street and the East River.

Look at the pic in #306...that's why there's no bus service.
To: Velveeta
Could it be because the traffic lights aren't working?

I tend agree with that. I'm a couple miles outside DC and everything's normal here, so I don't think it's terrorism related.
I hope terrorists don't get any ideas from this though. There're thousands of people milling around in the streets in NYC right now. Not good.
