ChadGore, Nice Map!
The Lighting Story was early SPIN!
If your interested in the GRID and the real story about electrical power.
It is all online and it's a political HOT POTATO!
Electrical Power is Big Business!
CONSOL EDISON Div/Shr $2.24 = Nice! If you have 20,521 shares.
Underlying each of these issues are complex details which must be addressed. In addition, the pro and con arguments of a vast number of stakeholders with diverse interests have been heard and must be taken into account.
____________________________________________________________ Well, if you want the dirt it's all inside sections 1 thru 8.
Table of Contents
4. The Federal Statutory Background of the Electric Power Industry
The Energy Policy Act of 1992 In 1992, President George Bush signed the Energy Policy Act (EPACT). The Act substantially reformed PUHCA and made it even easier for nonutility generators to enter the wholesale market for electricity by exempting them from PUHCA constraints. The law created a new category of power producers, called exempt wholesale generators (EWGs).
The law has been hailed by industry analysts as one of the most significant pieces of legislation in the history of the industry.
6. Federal Legislative Initiatives
"The Clinton Administration has been pressing Congress to reach consensus and enact comprehensive legislation without further delay"
Secretary Richardson stressed that "Congress must move ahead to make changes in the Federal statutory framework to provide the certainty that is needed to achieve reliable electric service in competitive wholesale and retail markets."(7)
8. The Role of the States in Promoting Competition
In 1999, Texas was the largest State to pass restructuring legislation. Governor George W. Bush signed Senate Bill 7 to introduce retail competition to Texas.(33) Retail choice will begin in 2002. The restructuring law freezes rates for 3 years or until 40 percent of a utility's customers have switched to an alternate provider, whichever comes first. __________________________________________________________

Dolphy, Dolphy, Dolphy...are you punnin' with us?Some people get paranoid late at night and some people just clever;) Seriously though, we lost all of our computers at the office this afternoon (we are tied in to our Detroit office). At the same time I was hearing the news out of NYC and my first thought was how does this happen from a single event.

My computer is steam-powered.Are you boiling water? Do you have a permit for this?
where can I get one?

I tend to change the channel every time she's on there so I don't notice.
I just moved and have no Cable[refuse to deal with Comcrap..er.comcast) so I have nothing until I get Direct TV so I can't get any stations anyway(I'm need to borrow dad's old rabbit ears).

Here's some info on "Slowly I turned, step by step"
Looks like Abbott and Costello did it first in 1944.

"The guy on MSNBC is stressing that this isn't terrorism, just a glich in the system. Is that suppossed to make us feel any better? That if someone wanted to do more damage it could be worse?"
And, as pointed out elsewhere in this thread, this could sure give terrorists ideas. :(

I heard that the power companies deliberately shut down their generators so they wouldn't overload once the first event (unknown supposedly) happened. If this is true, they could have overreacted and now it's going to take a good long time to get things up and running."a good long time"???
If they stayed online and fried the generators it would take MONTHS/YEARS to replace them.
You'd let the grid destroy your facility? I'm glad you're not running any power plant I depend on...

Power back on full tilt in Toronto, 15 mins ago.A/C doing just fine :)

HOLLY MOLLY, we are watching that. Total gridlock through out the entire NY region.......... Actually, it was surprising how well traffic flowed without the lights. Traffic was moving quite well, in fact.

Helicopters flying low over head too. That tells me it won't be the last outage for the night IMO.

That Statue of Liberty picture is so neat.
This morning my five-year-old son told me he had drawn "something very important to America" and produced a very clear drawing of the Statue of Liberty (in bright orange and green markers!). I was so touched and impressed and told him I was saving it. Little did I know just how nice it would be to see the Statue lit up later this very day!
