His people could have done a better job prepping him. He came into the briefing, no notes, no podium.
Bloomberg, notwithstanding his irritating way of talking down to people, did a somewhat better job of trying to appear confident and optimistic.

Is there any real possibility that this could have been the work of hackers?I understand this is a real possiblility. But no one in government would ever admit it.

No on use of standby diesels to start the plant. They are there only to run the cooling pumps in the event of a loss of offsite power.
The reactor core continues to generate heat (about 7% of full power, initially) even after the reactor is shut down. In the event of a power outage, you need the diesels to run the cooling pumps to keep the core cool.

In retrospect, it couldn't have worked out better. As soon as the power went out we vacated our building. Walking down 25 floors isn't so bad after all. Once we saw that the train station was dark, a few of us made a beeline to the ferry terminal.
I have no complaints about waiting two hours there -- there were simply too many people and not enough ferries. What bothered the hell out of me was that the situation was downright dangerous -- people passing out from the heat in the middle of a huge crowd crammed into a narrow walkway, and no way to get medical assistance to them.
The real problem was that the ferries would come in from New Jersey, discharge passengers, and then leave right on time regardless of how many people got on. The people that got off the ferries couldn't get up the pier, and those on the pier couldn't get past the ones who just got off.
When we got to Hoboken we just happened to have a guy pull up in a car asking for directions. It turned out he was going to the same place where we had parked our cars, so we hitched a ride with him.

Fox could win the PR battle on their signal dropoff if they just took a moment to say, "Hey look, we're doing everything we can to stay on the air, and it's been a solid record so far...except for those six minutes. What happened was....and it's been fixed, so cross your fingers....."

Er, um, I meant tomorrow for the NY Giants - if indeed they don't get power back to normal.

the blackout was a "natural occurrence" Interesting. Electricity flowing through man-made wires isn't natural. The electrons must be making a break for FReedom!

Thanks for the ruunning report. My husband wanted to watch a movie so I just got Fox back.
Heather Nauert says the crowd is getting rowdy. Perhaps Heather might want to think about heading back to the studio.
