Hannity station went dead for about 20 seconds. Said he had never seen anything like it.

a planned mini-event I doubt it. This is the last thing the economy needs right now.
Well, that's for sure!! I meant to write: 'a mini-event planned by terrorist types, not enough to do big damage, just a little glitch to test our reactions and procedures.' It was claimed such little tests of security and procedure occurred prior to 9-11.

You bet.
Boy the officials in NY seem to be sweating at this news conference.....Looks warm.

Sounds like you're saying the government should call everything terrorism, whether it is or not.

BTW, anyone talking about people trapped in elevators? Must be a bad scene in NYC.

They've lost all credibility with me.
And you're right. If this is the first stage of a terrorist attack - a "set up" - wherein they want people stranded or out in the open - we're in trouble.
I thought the same thing as you did - that this is a distraction for "stage 2" of whatever they might be up to.
At the very least it provides them adequate example of how vulnerable our power grid is, and gives them ideas, or provides them a "target of opportunity" in that they might, with little preparation, take advantage of this distraction to do something they might have been planning for a while.
I do hope that's not the case, but this whole thing just stinks to high heaven in my view.
You're right, not in a million years are they going to admit it is at all terror related if they are trying to stop people from panicking.
Gonna be a hairy ride for the next twenty four hours...

http://blackout.gmu.edu/highlights/timeline.html Interesting -- it sounds like they formed the Dept. ofEnergy to prevent such occurrences, well, I guess it didn't work. From your link:
Blackouts:
1977 July 13 &14 - On August 13, 1977, New York City suffered a massive blackout. All five boroughs as well as areas in the northern suburbs of Westchester County were plunged into darkness as lightning downed major transmission power lines supplying power to the metropolitan area. While many dealt with the blackout in a peaceful and neighborly fashion, a number of communities erupted in violence. Looters broke into stores, taking merchandise, and destroying local businesses. In place of the evening glow ordinarily produced by the city's abundant electrical lighting, fires lighted the darkened skyline, leaving charred remnants of once lively neighborhoods. Within the short span of two days, police had arrested 3,766 looters and the city had suffered an economic blow that one estimate placed at more than $300 million. Unlike the 1965 blackout, when the lights went out in 1977 the most distressed neighborhoods of the City endured what Time magazine called "A Night of Terror." ^_top
U.S. Department of Energy formed in the same year. ^_top

The entire eastern portion of the US, from east of the Rockies on to the Atlantic is pretty tightly connected, with the exception of Texas which has a few ties to the eastern grid, but nothing too strong. The acronyms, ECAR, MAAC, and the like are arbitrary boundaries dividing the various regions that manage the grid - they aren't disconnected from each other. If one had a map showing the major transmission lines in the areas affected and those around them, one would probably see a pretty good pattern of how the events unfolded. I suspect that over the next few weeks, information taken from substation event recorders and control center computers will tell the tale quite thoroughly.

Is it possible to give this guy a timeout for the evening? Check his post on his thread, it is near constant fear-mongering, tin-foil, and hysteria.
To: chudogg
Did anyone in connecticut lose power? where? Earlier in the thread someone mentioned Groton being out. That would be extreme SE, I think.

"RUN! EVERYTHING IS CONSPIRACY!" There must have been a helluva run on Reynolds Wrap..
Was I supposed to by the foil type? The store said they were all out so I went with the plastic. I believe this is part of the conspiracy too. They know if we all had aluminium foil it would thwart their plans.

I think since 9/11..some people need to be reassured when something big happens. At least 911 and 311 are working in NYC.I doubt the President will speak.Bloomberg is sounding up...if everyone turns off the A/C.power will come back sporadically in a matter of hours(I report hopefully).
