Bloomberg sounds like he's addressing children in an elementary school auditorium. Does he always talk down to his citizens like that?
No, but it's the proper way to talk to the press... they're basically elementary school children.

LOL! Power is out in Middlefield, OH, but the lady caller on WKBN, Youngstown, is saying that the Amish are doing just fine.

The whole eastern seaboard is out. Wrong - I'm in Myrtle Beach, SC and we have power so....I guess the whole eastern seaboard isn't out!!!!!

The majority are in Ohio and mostly the East Coast. We see citywide power outages here frequently. MCI and AT&T networks are among the worst hit.

We do love our disasters, don't we? If I were a cartoonist, I'd draw a cartoon of a flooded city full of cheerful rescuers, people chatting on cell phones, volunteers handing out sandwiches and coffee, smiling newsmen, etc., and show two angels up in the clouds saying, "These folks just don't get it - this is supposed to be a chastisement!"

Thanks for the info, Joe.

Is this blackout affecting some websites? I've been trying to access mail2web.com for the past hour and can't do it.

C'mon. They have a plan in place. It has a variety of options based on assessment of many factors and from gaming many scenarios. The assessment is not a sign of weakness or non-preparedness, but rather working through the checklists and plans previously prepared.

Ha! And everyone was laughing at California! How long has it been, maybe two years now, since we've had rolling blackouts? Gray Davis kept the friggin' lights on! Maybe he can go to NY and give them a hand to keep THEIR friggin' lights on. But then, of course, we won't let him back into the state...GREAT IDEA!!!

I should mention that Eaton borders Calhoun as well.

Bloomberg: The boiler shutdown procedures result in thick black smoke.
I can confirm this. My dad has worked in a petro-chemical plant for over 35 years and when shutdowns occur they have to dump the material in process and burn it off to shut down the processes.

Last night I saw on the local news (Nashville) that two middle-eastern men got arrested at the airport. They were on the federal 'no-fly' list and both had one-way tickets to New York. This is in addition to the ones at SE-TAC?
